Abline Sr., 76, passed away on Monday, March 14, 2011 at his home in Denville, NJ. Jim was born in Irvington, and resided in Newark & Passaic before moving to Denville in 1973. Jim enlisted in the US Army during the Korean Conflict in 1954. He served as Unit Administrator for the 50th AG Co., NJ National Guard, retiring as Sgt. Major after 43 years of service. He served as President of the Enlisted Assoc of the Army NG, 1976-77 and 1981-82. After retirement, Jim served as Director of Disaster Services for the NW Jersey Chapter of the American Red Cross, coordinating the relief efforts in NYC after 9-11. Retiring in 2008, Jim recently worked for the Morris County Park Commission. Jim is survived by his wife, Diane (nee Ferranti), daughter Penny and her husband Steve, his sons, Jim Jr. and his wife Melody and Timothy and his wife, Lisa, his five grandchildren, Cherie, Jamie, Christopher, Sean and Caitlyn, four brothers, Fred, Ronald, John and Tommy Abline, and his faithful buddies, Oreo and Muggs. Jim was predeceased by his sister, Patricia McManus and his brother, George Abline. Jim's funeral will be conducted from the Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville, NJ (www.normandean.com), (please light a candle in memory of Jim), on Friday, March 18th at 8:30 am, with a Mass of Christian Burial service at 9:30 am at St. Virgils Church, Morris Plains, with committal & interment services at Brigadier General William C Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetary, Wrightstown, NJ at 2:30 pm. Relatives and friends will be received on Thursday, March 17th at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 pm.
