Dorothy H. ”Dot” Vincent, 81, passed peacefully into the arms of the Lord on Monday, November 1, 2010 at her home in Rockaway Township.
She was born May 28, 1929, in Orange, NJ to the late Grace D. Kelly and Edward James Kane. She attended West Orange High School and, on May 22, 1949 was united in marriage to Walter E. Vincent also of West Orange.
A resident of Marcella since 1958, Dorothy was very involved in the community as a Girl Scout and Cub Scout Leader, and a member of the PTA of K.D. Malone School, the Marcella Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary, the Rosary Society of St. Simon the Apostle Church, and the Marcella Community Center.
A loving mother and homemaker, Dorothy also channeled her gregarious personality into jobs that she enjoyed as a saleswoman at Hostess House in Denville, and as an Avon Lady. She loved to read, crochet, sing, and dance, and traveled frequently to Texas to visit her beloved grandchildren. Of proud Irish heritage, she will be remembered for her warm, witty sense of humor and love of life.
Dorothy is survived by Walter, her devoted husband of 61 years; son, Robert, of Marcella; daughter and her husband, Cathy and Robert Cowing of Byram; son William and wife Judy of Ogdensburg; and son Donald and wife Donna of Green Twp ; grandchildren, Ryan and Kerri Aines; Jennifer and Joseph Vincent; and great-grandson, Jacob Vincent. She is predeceased by her parents, and siblings, Grace Kane and Edward James Kane, Jr.
Dorothy’s funeral will be conducted from Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ www.normandean.com, (please light a candle in memory of Dorothy on website) on Friday November 5th at 8:30am for 10am Mass of Christian Burial service at St. Simon the Apostle Church Green Pond Rd., Rockaway Twp., committal and interment services at Gate of Heaven Cemetery East Hanover, NJ. Relatives and friends will be received on Thursday November 4th at the funeral home from 3-6pm.
