Obituary of Joyce E. Draper

Joyce Elizabeth Draper, age 80, of Denville, passed away suddenly, but peacefully on Saturday, October 16, 2010 at St. Clares Hospital in Denville. Born in Detroit, MI, November 22, 1929, she was the daughter of the late Leo and Helen (Outley) Stowell.
In addition to her parents, Joyce is preceded in death by her daughter, Nancy Draper. She is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Richard Draper; sons, David Draper of Toronto, CAN and Bob Draper of Denville; granddaughters Nora Draper of Philadelphia, PA and Audrey Draper of State College, PA; and her brother, Charles Stowell and his wife Margaret of Bloomfield Hills, MI.
Joyce graduated from Western Michigan University. She worked as a journalist, computer programmer and technical writer, retiring from Bell Telephone Laboratories in 1997. At Bell Labs, Joyce helped scientists, including some Nobel prize winners, explain their work to a wide range of readers.
Joyce had many interests, all of them pursued with a quiet talent and passion - gardener, photographer, birder, quilter and lyricist. Many will remember her as a devoted friend who wrote the most extraordinary letters.
A Memorial Visitation will be held Friday, October 22, 2010 from 6-9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville. Donations may be made in Joyce's memory to Friends of the Frelinghuysen Arboretum, PO Box 1295, Morristown, NJ 07862-1295.
