I've had the pleasure of knowing Joyce for many years, as my sister Katie and Nancy had been very close friends. Joyce was a lovely person, we shared a love of quilting and beautiful fibers and fabrics. She was always such a thoughtful person and a wonderful friend to all of us "Lawler" girls. She will be missed by all of us.

I'm just remembering sitting with Joyce in my "new" VW Campmobile in front of "The Draper's House" as she gave me advice about traveling the country. The upshot was "be safe." Safe I am,
but sometimes too far away.
I wish I could be home with you all today to share the thoughts, memories, and love we all feel for Joyce.

As I think about my memories of Joyce, one of the wonderful pictures she took keeps coming to mind. It’s a photo of her son Bob cloaked in a quilt she had made especially for him. To me that photo seems like a metaphor for her personality.
She was not physically in that picture, and yet her warm presence was in every stitch of that quilt. She constantly wrapped whatever was around her—her family, her friends, her home and her garden—in her warmth and made all of us feel special, welcome and loved.
My husband, Bob, and I will miss her dearly and remember her with love.

I remember Joyce as Mrs. Draper. My Mom, Louise, Angie Haverly, Dewie Losh, and Joyce were the Lake Arrowhead Moms. We all really had a great nurturing place to grow up. I will always cherish my Lake Arrowhead Club memories. I remember helping Joyce collect newspapers by the bundle to help build up her backyard along the Rockaway River. We were using them as filler then burying them with dirt to raise the backyard level. I guess this was to help keep the flooding away. She often hosted lunch and dinner for us kids. My condolences to the Draper family. Joyce will be missed by all who knew and loved her.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Draper family during this difficult time. The best thing that happened to my family was moving to Lake Arrowhead and having folks like Mr. and Mrs. Draper to guide us through our childhood and beyond. She was a class act and will always be in my thoughts. God Bless.

Please accept our condolences on your sudden and tragic loss. Joyce was a wonderful, kind, and intelligent woman who will be dearly missed. Due to time and distance, I had not been in touch with you family for several years except for Christmas cards. We reconnected in recent years in part due to the wonders of the internet, and I always enjoyed visiting Dick and Joyce when we travelled to New Jersey. Joyce being Joyce took great interest in my son Eric, who turns 9 on the 27th of this month. She always wanted new photos for her refrigerator, and I was glad to oblige. My brother Bob and I were very lucky to have grown up in Lake Arrowhead and Denville. It was people like Joyce Draper that it made it such a special place for all the kids. Our thoughts and prayers are with you.

Richard, I always enjoyed babysitting your children. They were always lovely to sit for. You and Joyce were always gracious and you always walked or drove me home to make sure I was safe. You both were always such encouragers. I have always thought of our years living at Lake Arrowhead with fond memories and your family was always a part of those memories. Life goes on and we have 4 grandchildren adopted from China. They are Kimberlie's our oldest. Alexis teaches in Indonesia, Shana is in New York City following her dream as an actress on Broadway. The Lord gave us a son many years later and Joshua is in his third year at Northeastern University, OK playing soccer on their team. Jonathan is a school teacher now for 10th grade HS English. I am presently at Oral Roberts University Tulsa, OK getting my degree in Dance Performance. They asked me to come help pioneer the program. May the Lord's blessings be upon you and comfort you and your family. Love and hugs, Emalyn

So much to love and appreciate about Aunt Joyce. I will miss her so. Just recently, I was lucky to spend time with her in their home. I could see the excitement in her face. What a joy to see the lovely things she had placed around her home, the river she loved dearly, her quilting zone filled with beautiful fabric, and the pictures on the wall of family members from generations ago. She was a fabulous champion of family history. What an eye and talent for quilting. A great listener. Talented to the max with words and pen. As her family misses her, please remember how much she loved you.

I grew up in Lake Arrowhead and the Drapers lived two houses away. My younger sister Nancy was around the same age as Nancy Draper. Dick would come over and shoot baskets with us and the entire family were great neighbors. Families like the Drapers made Lake Arrowhead a special place.

Being around Aunt Joyce made every family event special. Her ability to listen to and notice changes in one's life made time with her special.
We will treasure our memories with her and forever remember what she meant in our lives.

A beautiful couple who really inspired the rest of us. One of the last times I talked with Joyce she said she and Dick had a bit of a hearing problem. She would yell upstairs about a hat and he would reply thinking she was talking about a cat. What a great sense of humor-- and a real supporter!

Having known Joyce for almost 50 years, I can say I am a better person for knowing her. When we were kids she was always there for us, took time to talk to us and always made you feel good about yourself. When my wife and I moved back into the lake it was always Joyce we went to for advice on our gardens, she was always there to give us advise on when to trim things, where to put things, in the sun not in the sun. The Garwood Gang will not be the same without her. Our hearts go out to her family.

Our families thoughts and prayers are with yours during this difficult time.
Joyce was a fixture of my community growing up in Lake Arrowhead and I count myself lucky to have been part of that community and to have known Joyce.
She always treated us with kindness and respect. My wife Tracy who grew up in the lake also said "you can only have nice things to say about Joyce (or Mrs Draper as we knew her)
