Eleanor Kathleen McCabe, 73, died peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer on Tuesday December 23, 2009.
She was born and raised in Passaic, NJ to Lawrence and Ann Lyons. She was educated at St. Nicholas Grammar School in Passaic; and St. Mary’s HS in Rutherford. She received her R.N. degree from Holy Name Hospital School of Nursing in Teaneck. She worked briefly at St. Mary’s Hospital in Passaic then St. Clare’s Hospital in Denville in labor and delivery unit. She raised her children and returned to nursing at Morristown Memorial Hospital. She enjoyed the camaraderie of her fellow nurses and colleagues and devoted herself to her patients on the oncology unit for over 20 years.
Eleanor and her family have been members of St. Catherine of Siena Church in Mountain Lakes, since its inception. She was a member of the bible study group and a proud member of the choir, she loved to sing.
Eleanor along with her surviving loving husband Ed raised four children and made sure all received their baccalaureate and advanced degrees. Their oldest son Brian and his wife Penny live in Mt. Tabor, NJ; their daughter Ann McCabe lives in Colonial Beach, VA; their son James and his wife Jeanne live in Boonton, NJ; and their daughter Kathleen and her husband Jim Lundy also reside in Boonton. Eleanor has six grandchildren; Meredith, Bridget, and Allison McCabe – James, Thomas, and Kathleen Lundy. Eleanor and Ed recently celebrated their 50th Wedding Anniversary on November 28th, 2009.
Eleanor is survived by her brother Lawrence Lyons and his wife Rita of Jenson Beach, FL; her sisters-in-law Patricia Lyons of Bloomfield, NJ and Geraldine Lyons of Lavallette, NJ and their families. She was predeceased by her brothers George & John Lyons.
Eleanor’s funeral will be conducted from Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ www.normandean.com, (please light a candle in memory of Eleanor on web site), on Monday December 28th at 9am for a 10am Mass of Christian Burial Services at St. Catherine of Siena Church Mountain Lakes, NJ, committal interment services at Holy Rood Cemetery Morristown, NJ. Relatives and friends will be received on Sunday December 27th at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Denville Rotary, P.O.Box 35, Denville, NJ 07834.
