Helen Mae Leamer, 95, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 14th with her loving family by her side. A Celebration of her life will be held on July 13, 2013 at noon at Franciscan Oaks, 19 Pocono Road, Denville, New Jersey. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Norman Dean Home For Services, 16 Righter Ave, Denville. To send a message of condolence, please go to www.normandean.com Born in Westport, Ct. to the late Edward and Pearl Burkey, Helen was one of seven children. After graduating from Staples High School, she was accepted into the University of Chicago where she earned her BA in 1939. While at the University she met Laurence Leamer and the couple was married on August 9, 1940. During World War II, she and her two small children lived with her in-laws and parents while her husband served his country in the Army. Laurence was an economics professor first at the University of Chicago and then for most of his career at what became the State University of New York at Binghamton. Helen was active in the community, worked part-time in the Vestal Library and was an active member of the Vestal United Methodist Church. Predeceased by her husband Laurence, she is survived by her sons Laurence (Vesna), Edward (Ama), and Robert (Mary Frances); six grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; two step-great grandchildren; sisters Mary Walker, Florence Smith and Marjorie Markwell; and many more loving relatives, caretakers and friends. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the University of Chicago, the Employee Appreciation Fund of Franciscan Oaks or any local public library of your choice.
