Ole Magnus Huse Baadshaug Age 88 Rockaway Ole died peacefully surrounded by his loving family on Thursday January 8, 2009 at St. Clare's Hospital after a long battle with heart disease. He was 88 years old. Ole was born September 6th 1920 in Eidsvoll, Akershus, Norway on the family's organic dairy farm. He was the son of the late Trygve Baadshaug and Bertha Johanne Huse Baadshaug. He was also the brother of the late Trygve Berulf Baadshaug. He resided in Rockaway NJ for more than 58 years. He spent his youth helping around the family farm, going to school and enjoying soccer and skiing. He developed a love for learning that continued throughout his life. At 16 he left home to become a merchant seaman in the North Atlantic convoys transporting material for the war effort. It was during this time period while on leave that he met his future wife at Sons of Norway #427 Nor-Bu Lodge in Rockaway. After WWII Ole moved to Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY in 1945 and married soon after. He spent the next 30 years working as a marine engineer on oil tankers and tug boats for Bushey Transportation Co. and Reinauer Transportation Co. He was a member of International Longshoremen's Association United Marine Division Local 333 of New York. Ole's true passion was his family. He was a loving husband, devoted father, best friend and mentor to his two sons. He enjoyed baseball, hockey, hiking, biking and camping and he spent many a summer with his family at campgrounds in Vermont and Maine. In his later years Ole bought an old farm in Walton NY returning to his roots where he would spend time with his wife, children and grandchildren, fishing and just being a big kid. He was an avid photographer, a tinker of all things mechanical, an active member of Sons of Norway Lodge 427 and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockaway. Ole was always there to lend a hand when needed and he will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years Ingebjorg (Simonsen), his son's Jim of Rockaway and Kenneth of Lafayette NJ, his grandchildren, Nicholas and Geoffrey of Orlando FL, Jenna of Andover NJ and Dalton of Walton NY and many nieces, nephews and cousins both here in the US and in Norway. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a memorial service to celebrate Ole's life on January 31st at Nor-Bu Lodge, Lake Telemark, Rockaway at 1:00 PM.
