Obituary of Frank V. Whitley

Frank V. Whitley passed away on Thursday June 15, 2006 at the Holly Manor Hospice in Mendham, NJ. He was 77 years old. He had been in generally good health until suffering a stroke in April. Frank was born in The Bronx, and raised in Scarsdale, NY. At 17 he enlisted in the Army, serving a tour in Korea. Frank attended Kent State and Iowa State Universities, earning a Masters Degree. After college, he worked as an on-air radio journalist and news copywriter. Several years later he changed careers and began fundraising for the American Heart Association in Omaha, NE. His long and distinguished fundraising career continued until several months prior to his passing. Notable accomplishments included raising funds for the construction of the Newark campus of CMDNJ, as well as campaigns for the Leukemia Society, YWCA, and Multiple Sclerosis. He was also a founder and past president of the NJ Society of Fundraisers. Frank moved to Denville, NJ in the early 1960s and lived there for the rest of his life. He was active in the Denville Friends of the Library, where he was instrumental getting the current library built. Frank also served one term as a Denville Town Councilman. He was a longtime member of the Denville Methodist Church, before joining the First Presbyterian Church of Boonton congregation in his later years. Brothers Joe and Fred, daughters Linda and Anna, sons Jeff and Bruce, and grandchildren Ryan, Scott, Jeremy, Angelina, Ellen, and Sandra survive Frank. Relatives and friends will be received on Monday June 19th from 7-9p.m. at the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ www.normandean.com.
