Bernie and Cathi,
I just want you both to know how sorry I was to hear of your mother's passing.
I remember her from when I was a small child - I guess we must have all been in TX at the farm. I always thought she was so beautiful. I'm so sorry I didn't get to know her better.
Please know that you are both in my heart and prayers.

I have wonderful memories of Ouida. She was very good to me when I was growing up. She had a big impact on my life. We talked often back then and I know she had a full life.
My prayers are with her family now. I will always remember her fondly.

My fondest memory of Ouida is from the first time we meet. Newly married (1990) and having just had our offer accepted for a house in Lake Arrowhead, we decided to take a walk through the neighborhood. Scott and I parked our car at the Clubhouse and started up Lakewood Drive with my father (who was visiting from Cincinnati) and our new puppy. Amazed at the number of incredibly friendly residents who waved and smiled, not knowing who we were,we waved and smiled back. As we approached Ouida's house she was tinkering in the yard. She immediately greeted us and while chatting noticed that we were admiring the large farm bell on the side of her yard. As a welcome into the neighborhood she insisted that we ring the bell -- which all three of us did. It was a small gesture, but one with a lasting impression that made that day very special. So much so, that shortly after my Dad returned to Ohio, he went to a farmers market and purchased us a big old farm bell to hang in our own yard. Inspired by Ouida that bell as been rung at the births of our children, on many special occasions and "newcomers" are always welcome to ring it for themselves. Many Thanks Ouida, we'll miss you.
