Obituary of David Joseph Schletter
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of David J. Schletter who passed away in his home in Succasunna, NJ, on July 17th, 2024. David was born to Felix and Dolores Schletter on May 20, 1958, in Albany, New York. The first born of six, David grew up surrounded by the love of a large and loving family. He attended Parsippany Hills High School in 1976 before continuing his education at the University of Stockton. He used his Bachelor’s degree to begin a 30 year career in computer programming.
Outside of work was where David really shined. He was a kind and charismatic man with a generous heart that was willing to help anyone in need. David had a talent for gardening and landscaping and would tend to the plants with such care that they made the yard even more beautiful. Additionally, he enjoyed attending craft shows through the years with his mom and siblings. He also loved the animals he kept as pets, including many fish and reptile friends, of which a snake being his favorite. When he had free time, he enjoyed taking trips with family down the shore, frequenting Spring Lake and LBI especially. If you were to call up David and ask him his plans for the day, the answer he gave was a simple one, but became a catch phrase of his that his family now remembers fondly; “Just spinnin’ my wheels.”
His family remarks that he was a wonderful big brother and uncle, filling the role better than any other. He had a heart of gold and was an amazing listener, always the shoulder to lean on in times of trouble. It pains us that he was taken from us so soon, but we take comfort in knowing that he is at peace, resting in Heaven.
It is now that we look to those he leaves behind to continue on his legacy of kindness and compassion. David’s family includes Linda Schletter, his father’s wife; his siblings, Debbie Schletter Cobo (Ron), Katherine Aasmaa (Rein), Greg Schletter (Marit), Laura Katzenberger (Rudy), Susan Plotts (Bryan); his nieces and nephews, Jasen (Gina), Alison (William), Julia, Aleksander, Mark, Michael, Sofia, Brandon (Ally), Nicole, Corey, Brianna, Tristan, Kayla, his great nieces and nephews, Crew, Hayes, Callan and Kylie, including a wealth of friends and neighbors who will remember him fondly.
