Obituary of Scott C. Milligan

Please share a memory of Scott to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.

Scott C. Milligan passed away peacefully with his loving wife and family by his side on Friday, April 7, 2023 at Morristown Medical Center in Morristown. He had shared 67 years of unconditional love, infectious laughter, and unforgettable memories with family and friends.

Born and raised in Denville to the late Howard and Betty Milligan, Scott was one of three children to bless their household. He graduated from Morris Knolls High School, Class of 1973. A hard and dedicated worker his entire life, Scott started his own business in the 70’s. He owned and operated Milligan Paving for many years before retirement. After retirement, he had odd jobs before finally settling down to Florida to take care of family and eventually Alabama where he tinkered around the house and made home improvements. He had lived in Denville, Pennsylvania, Florida and Alabama; he had made lifelong friends everywhere he went. To say Scott never met a stranger would be an understatement. He married his soulmate and best friend, Wendy Gail Schroff, on October 9, 2010. Together they traveled the country both in the RV and hand in hand, as a team. And boy, did they laugh with one another! While his children were growing up, Scott was very active in their lives. He was the coach for soccer and sold as many girl scout cookies as he could to help out his daughter. Being a gym rat is how he was able to keep up with his career and family in his younger years. He also had an undeniable love for music. He was a big kid at heart and truly cared about everyone he came into contact with. He was beyond generous and would give away the shirt on his back to anyone in need. He was the best story-teller, having his stories endearingly referred to as “Scottie's Fables”. The title that he treasured most of all, was “Pappy”. He was a phenomenal husband, doting father, dependable brother, and trustworthy friend; but when he became a “Pappy”, everything was good in the world. Although he was taken from us too soon, he will always be remembered for generations to come.

He leaves only joyful memories to his beloved wife, Wendy; his children, Nicole (Rothchild “Ricky”) Pierre-Louis and Shawn Milligan; his step-children, William Downes III, Jeremiah Downes, and Yvonne Downs; his sisters, Robin (Loren) Fisher and Penny (Keith Bierwisch) Milligan; his cherished grandchildren, Faelise McTernan and Mavie Scottie Pierre-Louis; and many other extended family and friends.

Public Visitation will be held on Thursday, April 13th from 2 – 6 pm with Funeral Service beginning at 5:45 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Avenue, Denville. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are being accepted in Scott’s memory by way of www.inmemof.org to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, to ensure receipt of your donation.
