I posted this on the memories but will here again. My memories of John span a lifetime. The first thing that comes to mind is his love of family. My children were blessed with the best uncle anyone could ask for. He always laughed at the goofy things they did when they were little and was proud of the adults they have become. Also, I remember his intense love of music. John and Carol had an entire wall of cds. A whole wall!!! They were in alphabetical order and there was always something great either old or current playing in their house. It's John's infectious laughter that I can still hear ringing in my head. That is how I will always remember him. Head thrown back and a big belly laugh. He loved his wife and his many dogs over the years. Rest in peace, John. You made all of our lives better. Shawn

We met John & Carol at the Straus House in the Catskills. We had an instant connection and friendship. We shall sorely miss hiking, X-country skiing, laughing, listening to music and pondering the world around us. John will be sorely missed for a very long time. Friends like John are not replaceable. Rest in peace John and may your light shine on.

Uncle John was a wonderful uncle. He loved listening to music outside on his deck, and I have many special memories barbecuing and spending time with him and my Aunt Carol there. He will be missed deeply by all his family, including his great nephew Luke, with whom he shared many special moments, and Noah, who will hear stories about him as he grows up.

I got to know John years ago as part of the Scramblers hiking group out of Kinnelon. I enjoyed his company and always made a point of walking beside him for some of the hike, or sharing a log to sit on for lunch. I remember John as always quick to smile, with a good sense of humor. He was very well thought of by all of the Scramblers.
Carol, our thoughts are with you, John will be missed very much.

John’s heart was always open and loving. Many fond memories of times with him. He never hesitated to be supportive of his friends and family and all their adventures. Mostly for me, he had a great capacity to see all sides of a situation, which came in handy on more than one occasion! He will live on in our memories for a long, long time.

It would be rare indeed to find a finer, gentler soul than John. I feel privileged to have gotten to know him. Our at first working relationship turned in to a good friendship. My heart goes out to Carol and the rest of the family.
Safe travels John

The inner circle grew smaller with the passing of John. He was such a welcome guest at our home in Crownsville Maryland be it for groundhogs day or the great grill offs which he and Carol attended on a yearly basis. Always smiling and ready to party. so much fun!

Parable of Immortality
I am standing upon the seashore.
A ship at my side spreads her white sails to the morning breeze
and starts for the blue ocean.
She is an object of beauty and strength,
and I stand and watch until at last she hangs
like a speck of white cloud
just where the sea and sky come down to mingle with each other.
Then someone at my side says,
" There she goes! "
Gone where?
Gone from my sight . . . that is all.
She is just as large in mast and hull and spar
as she was when she left my side
and just as able to bear her load of living freight
to the place of destination.
Her diminished size is in me, not in her.
And just at the moment
when someone at my side says,
" There she goes! "
there are other eyes watching her coming . . .
and other voices ready to take up the glad shout . . .
" Here she comes! "
..........And this is dying.
