I had the priviledge of working for Karen in 1986-87 while at Western National Life in Parsippany. Being newly transferred from Texas and a bit wide-eyed at working and living in a new enviornment, I looked up to Karen and learned so much from her. I will always remember her fondly.

What a gorgeous picture!! This candle is for both BL and KJ. Betty, I am praying that you get the strength to prevail and thrive on wonderful memories of the awesome times you and K had together. As for Karen, she & I agreed on almost nothing, except what is really important, like family, friendship, honesty, loyalty...I will miss our conversations terribly and feel priviledged to have had such a wonderful friend whom I admired and respected so much.

My deepest sympathy to Betty Lee, family, coworkers, and friends. Karen was a great boss - always valuing the skills an individual brought to the table. What a professional - a very positive leader who was able to "read" people accurately. It was my lucky day when I met her at Prudential in Newark and later joined the CCS team.

I first met Karen at Trenton State. I met the rest of Phys Ed majors who also were Girl Scouts.
I remember her home and her room in Lake Hiawatha or Parsippany. It was converted into a bedroom. She was so positive then when sometimes life was throwing her a hardball.
I forgot about her dancing and being a teacher until I read the article on her life. I remember her being so proud of her students and how serious she was with this job. She loved dance she loved putting on shows for the dancers and took her work very seriously even then at a young age.
At Camp MOGISCA she was the leader who pushed her kids to do the best in what they did. One year she taught them the different knots. By the end of the summer it was a sight to see. Again what delight she took with her kids and with herself.
Karen was Up beat and had endless energy in everything she did.
She sent me a poster picture in my senior year at Slippery Rock State U. It was a picture of a cat hanging from a rope with a large knot at the end. It said, "hang in there":-) I was in the middle of my final semester and exams.
I remember Karen’s apartment down the road from my older sister in Parsippany.
I was working at St. Barnabas Medical Center as a Reparatory Therapist and living in a little one-bedroom cottage at a private barn caring for horses in Bedminster. We would meet when we could. I moved to California and my life took many turns. However every year or two I would call and talk to Karen.
Karen spoke about her home in Denville. She described in detail the garden and the walk way up to the house. She was so happy painting a picture for me, sharing her wonderful home
.
She was so happy and incredibly kind and generous.
Very bright obviously, just reading her life story was very moving.
I spoke to her twice last year shortly after the diagnosis.
Even then she was still upbeat and hell bent on winning this battle.
I am so glad she was so happy and living such a full life with someone she loved.
Thank you Karen for being a part of my life.

To me, the best memories of Karen are the personal interactive moments we shared together. Some of those moments include family and friends, some were just between Karen and me. That there are no more opportunities of sharing in this world saddens me most of all. Karen, you hold a place in my heart and you'll be missed more than you know.

I remember first meeting Karen in the dorm, Decker Hall I believe, at then Trenton State College in the Fall of 1967. I believe she and Linda Olmstead were roommates and we were all starting our first year as Health and Physical Education majors. It was because of her that I became a swimming instructor at Camp Mogisca, then Girl Scout Camp for Morris Area girls, in Sparta, New Jersey. Those were the days. It was also because of her that I bought my neice a one year instruction in dance, at the school she taught at in Lake Hiawatha. My neice continued through junior high and also did gymnastics. I wish I hadn't lost touch. I've lived in the Southwest for over thirty years and kept up with her through my sister Meghan. Karen touched many lives, the world has lost a beautiful, intelligent and giving woman. My heart goes out to Betty Lee. Priscilla Shannon

Karen and I first met when we were counselors in training together at Camp Mogisca when were 17, and we worked together at camp for the following five summers. We lost touch once or twice over the years, but never for long, and our friendship never stopped growing. I believe Karen always gave her best effort in every part of her life - her work, building her business, and her personal relationships. Her strength and determination have been amazing, never more than in this past year. Karen thought of others before herself. Even with all she was going through, she never failed to show concern about my health and wellbeing whenever we talked. I will treasure the gift of Karen’s friendship forever.

I met Karen and Betty Lee along with some others from the Camp Mogisca staff over twenty-five years ago. I was a little overwhelmed at first being the new kid in the midst of a group with so much shared history. But I received a warm welcome that became the start of a lasting friendship and many great memories of times spent together. Karen’s inner strength over the last year was remarkable. I’m really glad I had the opportunity to know her.

Karen always was a warm and kind person. Her love for her family, friends and her dogs were what I remember most about her. She was so proud and loved to talk about her accomplishments with her business and extensive travel on cruises, visits to exciting places, and to Disney. :) May many memories bring comfort to those who were touched by her.

My standard greeting for Karen was "Hi Boss", in comic recognition that she was so very much more than that. Oh, she definitely ran the show, but always managed to balance that precarious mix of fairness and heart. In every way, Karen left this world much better off than she entered it. Isn't that why we're all here?
Brava, my dear friend Karen, and well done.
With much love from us all, Daniel, Diane and Paul B.

Although I did not know Karen very long, only a few years, I was impressed by her leadership. I had the priviledge of working with Karen during a project for Warren County, NJ and Karen was always very aware and always on top of the project. In case someone needed help, Karen was always the 'goto' person. She tackled the most difficult issues with ease and skill and somehow came out with a positive view. Karen always seemed to stay calm and cool during any stressful situations. I was very impressed by the way she fought this health battle as long as she possibly could, and always had a positive outlook. May God Bless your soul Karen and may He give your friends and family comfort during this difficult time. Rest in Peace, Ron

As a child, I have fond memories of cousin Karen, a young, beautiful women . . . and now as adult looking back, there is no doubt that she was vibrant, intelligent and confident. I remember Karen at family holidays when we lived in NJ and that having her as a babysitter was great fun (we were the 6c's at the time) .
While I did not know Karen well as an adult, I do know that she accomplished a great deal in her long career in the insurance industry, as well as, the Girl Souts of America. I am proud of her as a women, as a person who gave back to her community and as a family member. It saddens me greatly to know that Karen left this world so early, but know that she is now resting in peace. With love, Cheryl

While the miles and slight age difference prevented me from having the pleasure of knowing Karen better, I will always remember spending time with "Aunt Sissy" when I was little and Karen coming by to visit. I especially remember her taking me to a production of the Nutcracker where I got to sit on stage in my pajamas as the dancers danced around us during the dream sequence. I am sure I'm not the only one with warm memories of her. Her tenacious personality was evident during her fight against cancer, and it can only be one upped by her dedication to her family, her friends and her community...We will all miss you Karen. God Bless.

Betty Lee, Family and Friends,
I was so very saddened to here of Karen's passing. She was such a source of strength to so many of us.
In my life, there are just a few people that I want to be more like and she is one them. Karen taught me to push on and work through things. To take the time needed to reflect on a situation and then act instead of just reacting. That has been a valuable life lesson for me.
During the short few years that I worked for Karen, she was a courageous leader and still very caring and supportive.
May God bless and comfort you in this time of loss.
Sincerely,
Penny Pereira

I had the priviledge of working with Karen during our stint at Charter Security Life in Chatham NJ. Simply put, she was the best Accounting Manager I have ever seen and her staff, under her mentorship, were invincible. They tackled the most difficult workload with ease and skill. Karen always impressed me by her ability to stay calm and cool during many stressful workdays. Later on, she assisted many of her Charter co-workers who eventually got laid off from MetLife and were placed in jobs with her consulting company. Her big heart and warmth were felt by all who knew her. When my Mom was dying of cancer 1 year ago, I was in touch with her. Even faced with her own struggle, she offered me comfort and hope. I, in turn, prayed for her too, and asked her to fight this battle as long as she possibly could. She promised she would. May God Bless you Karen and may He give your friends and family comfort during this difficult time. You were truly a wonderful, caring person. Rest in Peace, Russ

What a sad day for all of us to learn of Karen's passing -- my heartfelt sympathy to Betty Lee, to Mrs Jensen and to her sister, Elaine ... and to all of her family, friends and coworkers.
We go back soooo many years with very fond memories too numerous to even begin to list. We worked hard, played hard and laughed hard -- enjoying our short time here is what we had to do!
My prayer is that someday we'll all meet in heaven and walk the streets of gold with no pain, no worries and huge smiles on our faces as we'll be with our Lord!
With a deep sadness in my heart as we'll miss you, Karen, my friend .... love you, Elaine

We extend our deepest sympathies to you and to everyone at Custom Corp. Karen was a generous and loving person, and although we didn't get to collaborate on business opportunities over the years, I always felt we connected on many levels: political, professional, and spiritual. Her last word to me (Feb. 14), typically, was "Thanks!"
Coincidentally, my small discussion group (Why Catholic/adult ed) prayed for her again on Wed. night, the day before she died. May she be blessed in knowing that she was held up in love -- even by people who had never met her!
Sadly,
