Rodney Edwards of Denville, NJ, formerly of Summit, NJ, passed away on October 9, 2007 at Franciscan Oaks Health Center in Denville. He was 101. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, October 20, 2007 at 3 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Summit, 17 Kent Place Blvd at Deforest Avenue, Summit. Born June 23, 1906 in Dallas, TX, he moved to Brooklyn, NY as a teenager and graduated from Erasmus Hall High School. He attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, graduating in 1928 with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He was a member of Chi Phi social fraternity and was elected to Tau Beta Pi, the national engineering honorary fraternity. He worked in the engineering field for Carrier Corp., with his brother, Alfred, for Quinn Engineering of NY, and finally for Burns & Roe, Inc., retiring from that firm in 1971. He was a licensed Professional Engineer, a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers. He and the former Doris Cornehlsen were married in Brooklyn in 1938, moved to Summit in 1949, and lived there for 45 years before moving to the Franciscan Oaks Lifecare Community in Denville in 1994. They raised three sons in Summit and were active in church, school, and community affairs. They have maintained a summer home at Estling Lake in Denville since 1944. He is survived by his wife, Doris, his three sons, Rodney, Jr., Gilbert, and Alfred, and four grandchildren, Mark, Leila, Brian, and Steven.
