Obituary of Wiliam P. O'Neill

William P. ONeill Jr. passed away on September 21, at Chilton Memorial Hospital.
He was 83 years old.
Born in Hackensack, he had lived in Weehawken and summered in Green Pond, NJ prior to moving there full time in 1969.
William had served in the Battle of the Bulge during WWII as a Staff Sergeant in the 3rd Army 26th Infantry.
He then graduated from Villanova University with Bachelors degree in Business Marketing in 1949.
William had worked as a Revenue Agent for the Internal Revenue Service for 37 years before retiring in 1987. After retiring he worked part time at his brothers restaurant, Peter ONeills Green Pond Inn.
He was a member of the Natl Treasury Employees Union, a long time member of the Green Pond 1st Aide Squad, a lector at St. Simon the Apostle Church, he enjoyed playing in the Green Pond Softball league and playing in the poker group for many years.
William was predeceased by his first wife Patricia in 1983.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Mary Lou (Korb) of Green Pond, and his children Constance Keller of Flemington, NJ, Susan Scripture of Green Pond, Jeanne Maupai of Green Pond, Douglas R. Smyth Jr. of Leawood, KS, Linda DeVries of Kinnelon, and Mary Lou Smyth of Green Pond, NJ. His 13 Grandchildren also survive him. His siblings Mary Jane Kavanagh, Barbara Noone, Peter, James and John ONeill also survive him.
Funeral from Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ www.normandean.com will be on Tuesday September 25, at 10AM for a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Simon the Apostle Church in Green Pond, NJ at 11AM. Friends may visit on Monday from 2-4 & 7-9PM. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Green Pond First Aide Squad, or to St. Simon the Apostle Church.
