Obituary of Everett J. Kates

Everett J. Kates, 89, died at his daughters home surrounded by his children on Thursday August 16, 2007. Mr. Kates was born in Richmond Hill, LI, NY and was along time resident of Rockaway Point, NY and for the last seven years at Franciscan Oaks at Denville, NJ. Mr. Kates was a Lieutant in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a graduate of Pratt University and received his masters in Engineering. He was employed at Picatinny Arsenal, Dover, NJ for 25 years retiring in 1981. Mr. Kates enjoyed playing Poker and other card games and his cruises and vacations with his wife. Mr. Kates wife R. Virginia Kates in 1991 predeceased him. His eight children, Virginia Ann DeFrancesco of Seaford, NY, Patricia Newman of Whippany, N J, Eileen Dancis of Wynwood, Pa, Marirose Kaufman of Staten Island, Bernard Kates of Hoboken, NJ, Bernadette Scholander of Colorado, Richard Kates of Kentucky, and Michael Kates of Oceanside, NY, also 18 grandchildren and four great grandchildren and two sisters, Ethel Tennis of Hawaii, and Margaret Mary Granchelli of Florida survive him. The funeral will be conducted from the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ www.normandean.com on Saturday August 18th at 8:30AM for a 9:30AM Liturgy of Christian Burial service at St. Marys Church, Denville, NJ. Interment Monday August 20th at 11:00AM at Calverton National Cemetery, Calverton, LI, NY. Relatives and friends will be received on Saturday August 18th afternoon and evening 2-4 and 7-9PM.
