Obituary of John McConnell

John McConnell, 84, died on Saturday Dec. 23, 2006 at the NJ Firemans Home in Boonton, NJ.
John was born in Eldersley, Scotland and came to the US in 1927, settling in Morristown, NJ. He moved to Denville in 1948 until moving to Clearwater, Fla in 1978 and he came back to Denville in 1997.
John was in the U. S. Army Air Corp stationed in Pearl Harbor and survived the Attack on Pearl Harbor and remained in the service during WW II.
After the war he worked in the Propulsion Engineering Dept at Reaction Motors in Denville until it closed. He than went to work with Lakeland Bus Company as a bus driver and supervisor until retiring in 1977.
He is a member of the Pearl Harbor Survivors , as well as the Denville V.F.W. Post #2519.
He has been a member of the Denville Fire Department since 1955, where he had served as Chief in 1965. He is a member of the Denville Fire Departments Exempt Assoc., as well as a member of the N. J. Fire Chiefs Assoc. and the Morris County Fire Chiefs Assoc.
He was voted in as a Morris County Living Treasure.
His wife Marge died in 1997, his sons P. Bruce died in 1976, and Richard died in 2006.
He is survived by his son John S. McConnell of Clearwater, Fla., his daughter in-law Leslie J. McConnell of Rockaway, as well as his four grandchildren Lindsay, Richard, Todd, and John, and his sister Sandy McConnell of Denville, NJ.
Funeral from the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave. Denville, NJ www.normandean.com on Thursday Dec. 28, 2006 at 9:00 AM for a 10:00 AM Liturgy of Christian Burial Service at St. Marys RC Church in Denville, NJ. Friends may visit with the family on Wednesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
