Phyllis H. Decker, died at her home in Surf City, NJ following a long illness on Saturday, August 16, 2014, just 11 days after her husband of 72 years passed.
She was born in Morristown and grew up in Wharton, NJ. She married her husband Brock J. Decker on July 25, 1942 and they resided in Wharton, NJ.
Phyllis graduated from Wharton High School in 1937 at the age of 16 and went on to business school. She began her secretarial career in 1939 and had a long career in this field retiring in 1976 as secretary to the President and CEO of the MKT Corporation located in Dover, NJ.
Phyllis' passion was her family. She enjoyed cooking and entertaining for family and friends, regularly hosting Saturdays and holiday dinners for her sons and their families. She loved swimming and long walks on the beach.
After retiring, Phyllis and Brock spent a lot of time at the Jersey Shore on Long Beach Islan. They purchased a home in Surf City in the early 1980's and moved there permanently in 1987. Phyllis stayed busy walking the beach, playing bridge, entertaining friends and family and minding her grandchildren; an activity she never tired of. She was a major and enduring influence in each of their lives, and loved them all dearly.
She is survived by her two sons and their wives; Jay and Linda Decker of Rockaway Twp. and Chris and Helen Decker of Tenafly, NJ.
She is also survived by her nine grandchildren; Bryan and Jennifer Gavin Decker of Brookline, Ma., Jay and Karen Decker of Mt. Arlington, NJ, Brit and Michael Garrison of Fairhaven, NJ, Eric and Melissa Decker of Westfield, NJ, Cassandra Decker of Flemington, NJ, Amy Decker of Brooklyn, NY, Alex Decker of Randolph, NJ, and Mackenzie Decker and Devin Decker both of Succasunna, NJ.
She has seven great grandchildren as well Nell, Pearl, Arabella, Ashton, Brock, Grant and Owen.
