Eleanor M. Cataldo, 86, of Rockaway Township, NJ, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, July 2. Ellie was born in Philadelphia, PA to the late Charles E. and Mary (nee Owens) Shearer. She attended the University of Pennsylvania and then lived in Mountain Lakes for more than 30 years. Much of Ellie's life was dedicated to her six children, nine grandchildren and one great grandchild, with whom she spent much time traveling, visiting and celebrating their many occasions.
She earned a real estate broker's license in 1978, and sold real estate for many years before working for Chubb Insurance Company for more than 10 years before she retired. After retirement, she enjoyed an active life with her many beloved friends in the Fox Hills community in Rockaway Township for more than 14 years. She also traveled around the world and enjoyed drawing, Italian, Broadway shows, playing cards and singing. She and her family would return every summer to Ocean City, NJ for vacation. She is preceded in death by her brothers Robert and Donald Shearer. She is survived by her sons and daughters: Michael Cataldo (wife, Vickie) of Essex, MA; Christine Curtin of Elijay, GA; Jeffrey Cataldo (wife, Nancy) of Chatham Township, NJ; Steven Cataldo (wife, Stephanie) of Dallas, TX; Lynn Vanderyajt (husband, Brett) of Denville, NJ and Beth Cataldo of San Francisco, CA; sister, Barbara Minsker (husband, John); nine beloved grandchildren: Alyssa Miller and Andrew Cataldo; Melanie Parker; Amelia and Douglas Cataldo; Kristen and Kelly Cataldo; and Kyle and Mallory Vanderyajt; one great-grandchild, Cedella Miller, and several nieces and nephews.
