Fr Murray use to celebrate the 7:45 mass at Our Lady Of The Lake Church in Sparta from time to time and always gave really good sermons. he wasn't afraid to state his candid point of views about current events. He always use to cheer on the Yankees and Giants before mass too. He was a real character and will be missed. May God bless him and welcome him into his Kingdom.

I have many fond memories of Msgr from my time as an alter server at St Mary's and time with the Youth Group. I remember making sure our "coffee houses" never got too loud for him, and him "catching me sneaking out early" of mass one Sunday (to pick up my parents from the airport!! - he did let me go before the recessional though :-P) He was a force to be reckoned with for sure! I am sad to hear of his passing, but am sure he is enjoying spending some personal time with Jesus!

Rest in Peace Monsignor Murray. We feel fortunate to have known you for so long and to have many wonderful memories from our time living around the corner and attending St. Mary's. You've done so much for so many throughout the years and have left an indelible mark on many of our hearts. Your presence will be missed but your spirit will surely live on. When we think of you arriving at the Gate of Heaven, it's easy to imagine your dog Peaches being there to eagerly greet you and welcome you home.

When we were growing up in Denville you were 'Father Murray'. You taught us in St. Mary's School and taught us to be good Catholics. I am the youngest of 8 in the Walsh Family and you were able to touch the majority of us with your kind words, guidance and teachings. Thank you! Rest in Peace. I know my family in Heaven will welcome you next to the Lord you served so valiantly for many many years. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family and friends. Monsignor Murray was such a dedicated priest and a wonderful person to know. He will be greatly missed by many whose lives he touched over the years. Just a few months back, he so graciously accepted our invitation to attend our 50th class reunion from St. John's high school in Paterson. He had such a great time with all of us that night and he added so much humor to the night. I am sure that God will reward him for all the wonderful work he did while here on earth.

I was going into 6th grade and was looking at Saint Mary's School (the original name) . My mom and I were on a tour of the school when it wasn't in session. So we are being lead down the hallway approaching the stairwell when we hear someone walking around upstairs. So we say up the stairwell, who is upstairs. They responded
, "it is the voice of God".
It turns out that it was actually Monsignor Murray.

So sorry to hear of Monsignor Murray's passing. He married my husband and me 38 years ago on Thursday, June 19th. He was so nice and helpful and even years later joked that he always said it would never last. I regret that I will not be able to come down from Massachusetts for his funeral Mass, he also never failed to mention that I live near his niece Margie. He must have loved her very much! God Bless Monsignor Murray.

Msgr Murray, Thank you for being such a big part of our family. You married Dennis & I forty years ago when I was just 20. You Baptized our five children, followed by 5 Communions and 5 Confirmations. You married our Daughter Joan to Darren 12 years ago.
My mom and I and then Dennis and I traveled with you . We were on our first and last cruise, apparently, not a great idea to travel to the North Atlantic in late Fall!
You supported our town and our shop, coming in on a regular basis for rosary beads, Hanna Hats and gifts for the Church and your girls. You were a generous man who appreciated those around you.
When we lost the shop to Hurricane Irene, Dennis & I were at our wits4 end, the shop was rebuilt and we were there one evening trying to put together some difficult display. We heard your familiar whistle and welcomed you into the clutter of a shop being rebuilt. You advised us that it was late and time to take a break. You treated us to Dinner at Verde, you will never know how much that evening meant to us. Somehow it gave us the strength to carry on, your words and prayers carrying us forward.
For almost 20 years we announced the parade together, you would come by everyday looking for the final lineup so you could practice. This year I brought it to you, we had a nice visit, soup was on the stove and golf on the TV. We talked sports and how the Hall was going to be. For years you treated Dennis to tickets when you were not able to attend a game. They became special times with the boys.
I am so sorry for your loss, for stories of your traditions, your neices and nephews, Mary and your Mom.
We will always be grateful to you and for all you did for our family over the last 40 plus years. Rest in Peace now, we will keep an eye on your Giants and the Hall.
Dennis, Susan, Patrick, Joan, Sean, Allison, and Kristin Banks

Murray Family
i have been blessed to have known your uncle since he arrived at St Marys.Being it as a student or an alterserver I always got great advice and candid feedback. When it was time to marry I wanted only Jim Murray to officiate. And when it was time to honor my Dad with a celebration of life and he asked us to contact the then retired Monsignor. Fully knowing he would do his best to horon my Dads wishes we were more than happy with his kind and caring sermon and eulogy. I am sorry for your loss and even more sorry that I wont be able to honor a true mentor and a wonderful man but Circumstnaces prevent me from being in NJ. I kmow that there are many greeters standing right behind St Peter awaiting the arrival in heaven of a very dedicated servent and friend to many. RIP Monsignor smile down on us often and hit then straight and long on the greatest fairways of heaven.
