Condolences to the family of Mr. Dan Winans. He was a person that was passionate about his interest and always willing to share his thoughts. You became a leader of the troop during a rough transitional period. I respect him for being a man of his word and sticking with the troop. I enjoyed having our conversations while attending scouting events or at the family home. He was great help with our Boy Scout Troop and the community. My father and he both got along very well.

Dear Betsy & family,
I was so sorry and sad to read of your husband's passing. I had only met him once, perhaps twice, but it was you who I knew more personally. Alex and Brian attended Mrs. Patterson's play group (a thousand years ago). I hope you remember me from the shop in Denville center, if the shoe fits. I am closing the store very shortly (July/August). I too am widowed now, having lost Silvio 18 months ago to cancer. I feel your pain. If you are able to please come to the shop before I close so we can talk with each other.
My sympathies go with you and your children (and grandchildren) as I empathize with all of you.
Love sincerely, Helen

I've been friends with Dan my whole life as our parents were friends. I remember the big black stove in his Mom's kitchen and numerous (seems like) birthday parties in his home and outdoors around the house, and in the old barn that always had cats and kittens that isn't/aren't there now. Also, he was polite always there at Church and in our Youth Group at all our activities. Although I haven't seen him in many years, he was part of my childhood and youth, and I will miss him. I wish his family the comfort of Christ and memories and love that will always remain with them through these hard times and forever.

I'd like to share some thoughts of Dan.
For many years Dan supported Troop/Crews in Denville with our annual Quality Unit reviews with enthusiam. He lived in Denville's Cedar Lake area and recently had a hugh tree hit his home during hurricane Sandy. Dan was one of our friends with a big smile as he supported the High Adventure "Watchu" Council Committee activitites. He helped to build the Watchu program from the start and was the guy who ran the stage show and provided the music throughout the weekend. When I hear his favorite tunes from the program, I will always think of him.
Yes, Buffalo Dan (which he used on his email address) will be sadly missed.

I worked with Dan at NYT Corp TV - he took the time to show me the ropes, I always appreciated it. Although we never really kept in touch after his retirement, I often thought of him. Sorry to hear the news on his passing.
