My brother Perry was on his way to becoming an excellent soaring pilot, but he passed away on the same day Tony did. I can only hope that Tony will now be his instructor, for he was one of the best I ever had. I would like to extend my deepest sympathies to Madelline and his family.

I just read about Tonys passing and would like to extend our deepest sympathies. When Tony worked at Easy Method he always had a positive attitude and without fail made all of us laugh about something every time he was in the office. He was an excellent Instructor and will always be remembered here.

I was Tony's nurse at Kindred Hospital when he was at the end of his journey, even though my contact was brief with the couple I could not help but see how much they loved each other. This was truly inspirational and I feel that I was blessed to have been able to be there not only for Tony but for Madeline also. I pray that he is at peace and that Madeline is comforted by all of the wonderful memories that they shared.

Madeline - I always enjoyed interviewing both of you - individually or separately - in your "across the street" NY offices. Tony would just beam as you spoke. In a long-ago joint interview for HTT at GA was where I learned of Tony's flying prowess (ultralights, I think?), that you lived in Morris Cty, and that you don't have to be Italian to be named Anthony! Yes, I do remember. Madeline, you were/are part of a great team! I am so sorry. Joan Gunin, Plano TX

What a pleasure it has been to know Tony for the past 40 years. His quick wit, humor and generosity have no equal in my book. It has been great to see the happiness that Madeline brought into Tony's life.
All I can think of now is that there is one big welcoming party going on in heaven, organized by; Jack Greene, Bob Fitch, Dent Brome, Bob Newman, Doc & Cass Solt, and the list goes on & on.

To sit at The Hilton after a nice flight and share a beer and laughs with Tony was a little slice of Heaven to me. I know of no one that has a faster wit and better sense of humor than Tony Benson. And Tony could slice up a club member with surgical precision if he or she warranted it. Hilarious as long as you weren't on the receiving end. Now Heaven has all of Tony. As the Bible says "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." I remember Tony's final comment when we were trying to figure out the day's weather conditions from a group of online resources – "Ultimately, it's God's air and he can do what He wants with it." Tony will be sorely missed but each of us who knew him and flew with him still have him with us. God bless Tony and Madeline.

Tony could push my buttons and he knew it. Still it always seemed good natured. I'll always remember "Breakfast with Tony" at Wurtsboro. Glenn and I were treated to an intimate telling of Tony tales. See you in the air Tony.

Tony's wit had the bite of Don Imus and his earthy anecdotes and folksy style allowed him to poke fun at anybody without being mean spirited. Whenever I flew with Tony it was always fun, but more importantly, I always learned something new because he put me in situations I wouldn't put myself in and allowed me to fly out of it. May your journey be filled with 6kt thermals Tony and thanks for teaching my daughter to drive!

The list of Tony's contributions to his flying friends at Blairstown airport and to me personally is too long to fit in this small space. Suffice to say he was the heart and soul of Aero Club Albatross. You will be sorely missed old friend.

Tony had an endless supply of jokes, and was a master at telling them. To tell Tony a joke that he hadn't heard before, and make him laugh in the telling, was quite an achievement. I think I managed it twice.

Many will remember Tony for his humor. I will remember Tony for his generosity and friendship. He "sold" me his Ka6-cr for a dollar when he felt I was just about ready to fly and take responsibility for that ship. A year or so later on a great soaring day, he assembled his ASW-20C P4 and walked over and said it was mine for the day. He gave a complete briefing on the sailplane, and sent me into the air. I got hooked on flying the 20, so Tony helped me find a beautiful 20 to buy, and accompanied me to check out the sailplane we found for me to acquire. And a few years later once I finally convinced him that ACA would benefit from a donation of my 20 to the Club, he led the team to "retrieve" it from Hollister CA...perhaps the longest retrieve in ACA history?
He was an amazing individual with a great heart. When you have a great day or soaring or camaraderie out of Blairstown, thank Tony, and especially Madeline for letting us all borrow him from her.

Tony was my first glider instructor and my most memorable. I won't bore anyone with details-I'll only say that Tony was right. I was once told that soaring pilots come back as Ravens and I think there is something to that. I'll be keeping a lookout. My sincere condolences to Tony's family. He will be missed.

Tony Benson - was as straight-talking, wise, and insightful as men come.
Not a man of teary-eyed statements, the only times he would get emotional was when he spoke of the two things in life he really cared about - his wife and flying gliders. Above all, his sense of humor was for ages.
May he rest in eternal lift under an infinitely long cloud street.
