Bloomfield Sr. died on Sunday March 16, 2014 at his home at Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains, NJ. Bill was born in Philadelphia, PA to Marion and Herbert Bloomfield and grew up in Glen Ridge, NJ. At seventeen, after graduating from Glen Ridge High School, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served with the eleventh Marine Air Wing at Cherry Point North Carolina. After an honorable discharge from the Marines, Bill attended Lehigh University in Bethlehem, PA and graduated in 1952 with a BS degree in Industrial Engineering. Bill married Kathryn Miller of Johnstown PA and began his career with the New Jersey Bell Telephone Company. They lived in Bloomfield, moved to West Orange, and then settled in North Caldwell, where they lived for forty-three years. They moved to Cedar Crest in Pompton Plains, NJ in 2008. Bill worked for New Jersey Bell for 31 years, retiring as Director of Labor Relations in 1983. After his retirement, Bill and Kay split their time between their homes in New Jersey and Nantucket Island, where he enjoyed spending time with friends and family, fishing, clamming, scalloping, and birding. He was able to build almost anything, including beautiful furniture, and became a talented carver of shorebirds and duck decoys. He was a long-time member, and later chorus director, of the Montclair chapter of the Society for the Preservation and Encouragement of Barber Shop Quartet Singing in America, Inc. (SPEBSQSA). He is survived by his wife of sixty-one years, Kathryn M. Bloomfield and his three sons and their spouses William and Diane of Denville, NJ, James and Karen of Houston, TX and Chris and Irene of Kinnelon, NJ. He is also survived by his eight grandchildren Heather Jason and her husband Stephen, Amy Bloomfield, Danielle Bloomfield, Timothy Bloomfield, Michael Bloomfield, Kathryn Bloomfield, Eric Bloomfield and Victoria Bloomfield, and two great grandchildren Stephen and Emma Jason, and his sister June Bourne of Yarmouth, ME. He recently lost two sisters Elizabeth Pfluger of Sunnyvale, CA and Joan Lillie of Albuquerque, NM. A memorial service will be held 2:00 PM on Sat. May 10th at the Glen Ridge Congregational Church, in Glen Ridge, N.J.
