Obituary of Margaret "Peg" Whalen
Margaret “Peg” Whalen, of Rockaway, died unexpectedly on August 10, 2017 at Morristown Medical Center. She was 81 years young.
Peg worked in the St. Cecilia Preschool for many years. After retiring, she worked part-time in the Parish Office. Peg was a long time member of the St. Cecilia choir, which she loved. Peg was involved in her children’s activities, while they were growing up. Peg had a kind soul and touched the lives of anyone who knew her. Her generous spirit and loving heart will remain with us for an eternity.
Peg was predeceased by her beloved husband, John P. of 56 years, in 2014; her parents Patrick and Mary Daly; her brothers James and John Daly. She is survived by her children Mary and Kevin McAloon and Ann Whalen of Rockaway; Margaret and Patrick Mulligan of Pearl River, NY; James and Jeanne Whalen of Flemington, NJ and Terence and Polly Whalen of Brick, NJ. her sister, Maureen Daly, Margaret and Hugh Carty, and brothers and sisters in-law Rita Daly, Terence and Sandy Whalen, Lenore Whalen, Joseph and Hazel Whalen, Sheila and Joseph Fullerton. She is also survived by her grandchildren Patrick and Stephanie, Michael and Samantha, and Caitlin McAloon; Katherine and Jeffrey Pride, Thomas, Kevin and Kelly Mulligan; James, Kathleen, William, and Joseph Whalen; Brenna and John Whalen; and by her great grandson Liam Pride; and dozens of nieces and nephews, and friends.
Public Visitation will take place on Sunday, August 13th from 2 – 4 & 7 – 9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville. Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Monday, August 14th at 10 am at St. Cecilia’s RC Church, 90 Church St., Rockaway. Burial will follow at St. Cecilia’s Cemetery, Rockaway.
