Martin Michael Mackin passed away in Toms River, NJ on February 1, 2014, at the age of 92.
Born in Jersey City where he spent most of his life, he had moved to Whiting, NJ in 1981.
Martin served in the U.S. Army during WWII and was awarded the Bronze Star as well as Battlefield Commission to Second LT which were earned in connection with Military operations crossing the hazardous Rhine River into Germany.
He had worked for 41 years as a freight handler for Railway Express Agency in both Hoboken, NJ and in NYC before retiring at age 60. He was an E.M.T. for the Whiting First Aid Squad for 10 years, he taught CPR, was a volunteer for hospice and was a parishioner of St. Elizabeth Seton R.C. Church in Whiting, NJ.
Martin was predeceased by his wife of 53 years, Stella E. (Cibor) Mackin in 2001.
Martin is survived by his sons John Mackin (& Joey Wolff) of Boonton Twp., NJ, and Martin J. (& Lee Ann) Mackin of Rockaway, NJ. He is also survived by his Grandchildren Jennifer and Dennis Mackin, both of Lake Hopatcong, NJ as well as his Great Grandson Christopher Bakos, his sisters Nora Faber and Anne Nienstedt both of L.I., NY and his sisters in law Helen Dunay of North Brunswick, and Congetta Mackin of Lyndhurst, NJ.
Funeral services will begin at 10:30AM on Friday February 7, 2014 at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834, then going to St. Cecilia's Church in Rockaway, NJ for an 11:30AM Mass of Christian Burial. Interment will follow at Holy Name Cemetery in Jersey City. Friends may visit at the funeral home on Thursday from 3-7PM.
