Obituary of Margaret F. McGirr

Margaret F. "Marge" McGirr (née Headrick), 100, of Denville passed away on January 16, 2014. Mrs. McGirr was born in Newark on June 8, 1913 to Minnie and William Headrick and grew up in Newark and Irvington. She married Joseph Harry McGirr on September 13, 1941. She worked as a chemist at Jean Jordiau Laboratory in South Orange and for the Essex County Nutrition program for many years before retiring in 1985. Marge also was a Den Mother and Training Committee Officer for the Orange Mountain Council of the Boy Scouts of America for 10 years.
Before moving to Denville in 2006, she lived in Toms River for 21 years and in East Orange for 40 years. Along with her mother and sister, Marge was an active member and officer of the Daughters of America. She was active in the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program of Ocean County for 14 years, as well as a volunteer at the American Cancer Society Thrift Shop in Toms River. She was also a member of Pinelands Reformed Church.
Mrs. McGirr was predeceased by her husband, Joseph Harry McGirr, and by her brothers William Headrick and Charles Headrick. She is survived by her sister, Pat Fischer of Denville, her daughter and "son" Joyce and Bob Berntsen of Rockaway, her son and "daughter" Richard and Lida McGirr of Concord, MA, grandsons Rob and Michael Berntsen and Daniel and Jeffrey McGirr, her niece Linda Cronin and her husband Jim, and her nephew Bob Headrick and his wife Alice. Feisty, strong, loving and beloved, she will be remembered as a loving, caring and devoted Mother, Grandmother, Sister and Aunt
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday January 21, 2014, at 10AM at the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834. Interment will follow at Hollywood Memorial Park in Union, NJ. Friends may visit at the funeral Home on Monday from 2-5PM.
