Robert J. Davenport, Sr. passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home on Friday, January 13, 2017. He was 88 years young.
Born in Linden, NJ, he was raised in Newark and West Orange. A proud Army Veteran, Robert served his country in the Korean War. He was a member of the Hillside VFW and St. Bernard Parish in Rockaway. Robert had a Master's in Business Administration and had a very successful 35 year career as a Senior Internal Auditor for PSE&G in Newark. He was an outstanding husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother. He will be missed dearly and remembered every day in our hearts and souls.
Predeceased by his beloved wife of 57 years, Rita Elizabeth (Rounds) in 2010 and his son-in-law, Michael Weinberg, left to keep his legacy alive is his loving children, Robert J. Davenport Jr. of Pt Pleasant, Steven Davenport and his wife Ally of West Orange, and Carol Weinberg of Succasunna; his cherised grandchildren, Bobby III, Jimmy, Patty Gentile and her husband Gary, Chrissy and Kate Davenport and Kevin and Chris Weinberg; his adored great-grandchildren, Bobby, Meaghan, Lauren, Susan, Annie, Jamie, and Matthew; his caring brother, John "Jack" Davenport and his wife Betty of FL; his best friend and pup, Yoshi; and many other extended family and friends.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, January 20th at 10:00 am at Saint Bernard Parish, 466 Mt. Hope Rd, Rockaway Township, NJ. Burial will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. Public Visitation will be held on Thursday, January 19th from 2-4 & 7-9 pm at Norman Dean Home for Services, 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ.
