Christiane E. Roekaert, of Santa Barbara, CA passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family in the comfort of her daughter’s home on Monday, November 21, 2016. She had moved here after a terminal cancer diagnosis. She was 87 years old.
Born in Antwerp, Belgium, she came to the United States at the age of 9, and lived in Staten Island, NY. While attending Barnard College in New York, she met her husband Raymond, with whom she moved down to Lima, Peru shortly after their wedding. Peru became their home, and it is where she lovingly raised her family and lived for more than 42 years before returning to the United States and settling in Santa Barbara, California. Her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her life and she left them a legacy of laughter, love, and devotion that will live in their hearts and souls forever.
She was predeceased by her daughter Patricia and her husband Raymond. Left to keep her legacy alive are her beloved children Michele of Clearwater, FL, Katherine and her husband Kevin of Morris Plains, NJ, Edward and his wife Silvana of Lima, Peru and Peter and his wife Desiree of Lima-Peru; her cherished grandchildren Katherine, Sarah and her husband Julio, Patricia (Pami), Danielle, Jean Paul, Andre, Nicole, Michelle, Nathalie, and Valerie; and her precious great-grandchildren Julio Ignacio and Camila.
A Memorial Service will be held on December 10th at 10:30 a.m. at United Methodist Church of Mt. Tabor, 5 Simpson Avenue, Mount Tabor, NJ 07878. Please leave a condolence for her family.
