With a heavy heart, I flipped through the photos of Justin and his family. Though I didn't have the pleasure of meeting Justin, I feel like I know him from the comments of his friends and family, from the words Steve has shared with us, and through knowing Steve. I will always remember the 1st day i saw Justin at Tiny Tots. Devin and Dakota where playing with Justin and when I first saw his face his eyes talked to me. From that moment I knew my sons found a friend who was just like them. Yes they could be a little loud, a little goofy, hyper, caring, loving, sensitive, and could get under your skin so much that you couldn't help yourself to love them so much. The day you moved to NJ was very difficult on them and I so wished they were able to keep in touch for I know their friendship will last forever. Forever continues for Justin will always be in our hearts and memories. He is now at peace in God's hands and will be watching over his family and friends. RIP sweet Justin and my God give his hand of strength and guidance to your family during their most difficult time of your return to Gods hands.

Dearest Hearts…
The sun is setting here in sunny California…
The wind is strong but, warm … our thoughts are of Justin … and for us, all.
Our own hearts break at the thought of a world without Justin Marshall…
your oldest son and biggest brother and grandson and nephew and uncle and cousin and friend … It is unfathomable.
The reality of this eludes us, even now.
Days have passed … and we search for words… for something to address this sadness and loss… and you… but, we ourselves, are just lost.
It has been many years since we have seen Justin or been a real part of his life.
Yet, we always knew of his kindness, his sweetest heart and his most open soul.
We were lucky to be around for those first steps and when, we first think of Justin… it will always be as a baby on a Fourth of July long ago … with a red star affixed to his big, round forehead. It is a good, sweet memory and we hold it dear.
We pray for strength for you to hold your best memories close.
Justin’s death reminds us that we only have this very moment … and, it is our choice to make it a grateful one.
We are grateful for you. We are grateful you have each other. We are grateful for your family and friends. We are grateful that you always loved Justin and were always loved in return. We are grateful for this opportunity to appreciate life … and today, to appreciate Justin’s life.
We do not pretend to know what many of Justin’s days were like… the days that added up and formed his life.
But, we do know … that so many days were filled with sharing and caring and hope and dreams and love.
Today, while it is still called today… we will remember that love.
Today, let us tell each other that they are truly loved and let us hold each other tight.
Today, this moment, we pray you are especially blessed. We pray for the courage to face the days ahead… we pray for the wisdom and the strength to simply carry on… knowing there is nothing simple about it. We pray love stays close. We pray you find solace during the times you are lost and disappointed… and hope that you remember, with joy, all the times when you were happy and encouraged and free.
Today, as we hold each other close, we will whisper his name in gratitude … Justin is with his Lord in heaven at this very moment… Rudy was first down the mountain to greet him…their voices feel very close… and the strong warm, wind speaks of a Love that surrounds us now, comforts us and offers strength to our hearts. It is this language of love and forgiveness that our souls remember.
Today, this very moment, we pray your hearts are laden with the best memories from an unforgettable journey…. even as your own continues, without him.

I would like to share what Justin Marshall Finnerty meant to me.
I met his father, Steve, a long time ago; we have a long rap sheet of stories - some good and some not so good - but we are still going strong today. Years after I met Steve, I met Rebecca - a great one-of-a-kind lady, and my buddy Justin was very proud of her. Sometimes Justin and Rebecca were two peas in a pod and sometimes they were like Heat Miser and Snow Miser (I will let those of you who know them decide who is who), but my point is that they had a bond, they spoke their own language and understood each other. The bond that existed and always will is the love they both always had for each other and worked so well.
Justin’s Dad, on the other hand, a completely different chemistry but certainly equally filled with love. The dedication and love Steve has for his family is unlike anything I have ever known. In my many conversations with Justin, he always expressed his admiration for his Dad and acknowledged how hard his Dad worked for them. Steve works so hard to provide the best life for his family and because of that, Rebecca was able to provide the ultimate support for Justin as he struggled to move forward.
When it came to his siblings Carson and Chloe, Justin was very protective of them and I know he adored them equally. Yes, Carson, even when Justin teased you or mocked you, it was out of love. All I know is that Justin truly loved his Dad, his Mother, his brother and sister and extended family and friends regardless of the struggles he was facing.
Justin will always remain closest to my heart wherever he may travel. I remember giving him his first piggyback ride – he may have been 6 or 7 months old, a tiny lovable little guy. I remember camping and showing him how beautiful flowers are in nature; basically I was introducing Baby Justin to shapes, and I continued my teachings with him on anything good that could help him in life.
So, to me, Justin was a big part of my life as I was of his. Our relationship was unique, we got along together and we had great chemistry that kept us united and bonded as family for all these years.
Justin was one of the kindest kids I have ever known. He was handsome, courteous, helpful, giving, compassionate, and had so much charisma that he could win over the most stubborn person (I guess he got that from Dear Old Dad). What always came to my attention when it came to Justin was his unbelievable smile, which can be seen in every picture taken of him, and was his winning ticket to people’s hearts.
In summary, I will miss his presence, his laughs, our conversations, jokes, and his beautiful heart. Most impressive is the fact that Justin and I never, ever had disagreements and that says a lot about our beautiful connection and mutual respect. I have lost a buddy, friend, and I loved him like my own son.
Justin may no longer walk with us but I will keep him closest to my heart and I will see the rest of life for him from this side of the aisle for as long as I can. He will be in my thoughts every single day for as long as I live. I love you buddy and so do all of the Castros. You will be missed but never forgotten.

Dearest Finnerty family,
Every member of your family is blessed with unbelievably huge hearts, anyone that meets you feels it immediately. This must make the holes torn in them by losing Justin too massive to measure. We didn't know Justin well, but he was a Finnerty which means he must have had uncommon kindness, and it tells us the world is a little colder without him.
My strongest memory of Justin is when we played together in the "Coaches vs kids" soccer game. I knew the battle he was fighting, but for a little while, he was so free and happy. His natural soccer skills were so evident; I marveled at how effortlessly he controlled the ball. We laughed and high-fived as we let the girls beat us. His smile was contagious, his love for his family was palpable, and I felt an instant friendship with him. He left such an impression on me; I only wish I had gotten to know him better.
We know that no words can heal that giant hole in your heart, we can never understand your pain, but we ache for you. We love you, and we hope to be here for you always.

I didnt know Justin for long, bur for the time i did i am grateful. He was such a nice, sweet caring boy. I had the chance to work with him for some time at a restaurant, and we built a friendship and used to talk about tv shows we liked and hopes and dreams he had. I remeber his parents were regulars and his little sister was just a baby, Justin was so in love with her, and would do anything for her. I was so saddened by the news of his death, and my heart goes out to his whole family. I lost my brother and family members to addiction, it is heartbreaking and you feel defeated at times. I hope you know what an amazing job you did as parents in raising such a wonderful son, dont ever feel defeated. His legacy will
Go on, and hopefully his death will help someone else struggling, a parent struggling with a child with addiction, sisters, and brothers, whoever. I hope this message leaves you with some hope.
