Obituary of Bill "Spanky" Spencer McCue

William S. "Spanky" McCue of Denville, previously of East Orange, passed away peacefully at home on December 15, 2013.
Born in Fallsington, PA to the late Mickey and Betty McCue, he moved to New Jersey and spent the remainder of his life here. Spanky was an East Orange Fireman for 32 years and a proprietor of McRoys's Pub in Clifton. Spanky was a proud Irish American and a member of the Essex County Emerald Society, Essex County Shillelagh Club, the Cryan Association, the Ruane Association, Project Children, Irishman of the Year, and Deputy Grand Marshall of the West Orange St. Patrick's Day Parade in 1994, and several other Irish American Associations. He was past commander of the Thomas Kepp VFW Post 5445, an active member of the American Legion Post 390 in Denville, and the VFW Post 3401 in Morris Plains. Spanky proudly served his country during the Korean War and continued to live his life according to Semper Fi.
He was pre-deceased by his parents and brother, Robert.
Spanky leaves his wife of 56 years Ann; three daughters, Maureen Cormier (Phil) of Stafford, CT; Michele Shaffer (Steve) of Denville, and Susan McCue-Goodwin (Rob) of Burlington, KY. He leaves his ten cherished grandchildren - Elizabeth Cormier May, Joseph Cormier, Michael Cormier, Charles Cormier, Annie Shaffer, Molly Shaffer, Colleen Shaffer, Patrick Goodwin, Andrew Goodwin, and Jack Goodwin; and two great-grandchildren, Jacqueline Cormier and Thomas May. Spanky leaves behind many friends, including the East Orange Fire Department families, the members of American Legion Post 390, and a lifetime of treasured friends. His gratitude toward Kate cannot be expressed in words.
The funeral will be conducted from Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville,
NJ, www.normandean.com, (please share a memory of Spanky on website), on Saturday December 21st at 9am for a 10am Mass of Christian Burial service at St. Mary's Church, Interment at Denville Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received on Friday December 20th at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
