Obituary of Anna Volk Reddy

Please share a memory of Anna to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Anna Volk Reddy, age 95 of Wilmington passed away Thursday, December 5, 2013. Anna’s ninety-five year journey began in a hospital in New Jersey on November 25, 1918. Her mother told her that on the day she was born, the bells were ringing all over town to celebrate the end of the first world war. She grew up in a home in Kearney with her mother and her maternal grandfather with whom she was very close. Although she remained an only child, Anna had an extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins to guide her through the challenges of the Great Depression, a worldwide flu epidemic, the uncertainty of WWII and all the rapid social changes at the time. Like many strong, adaptable women of her generation. She gratefully accepted whatever employment was available and quickly learned to be frugal with her money. At one of these jobs, she met the love of her life, Francis Melvin Reddy and they were married. Anna followed “Mel” to Bangor, Maine and to Bermuda while he served his country in the Air Force. When he completed his time in the service they made a life for themselves in the Morris County area of New Jersey. The couple was blessed with the two talented and beautiful daughters of whom they were always very proud. Her eldest daughter was Diane Lynn and her younger daughter was Lee Ellen. Sadly they both passed on early in life, but not before giving Anna four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband and other extended family she leaves behind her “other kids”, Henery and Lorraine, and her much loved church family from St. Mark’s Lutheran in Morristown, NJ. The last several years of her life Anna has been living in Wilmington, North Carolina with her family. Her journey here on earth ended on December 5th, just days after her 95th birthday. Let us all give thanks to God for the time she was given here on earth and the Promise of Life Everlasting. Visitation will be held at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834 on Thursday December 12, 2013 from 9-11AM. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in East Hanover, NJ. Please share memories and condolences with the family at: www.normandean.com.
