Valentina Papadopulos of Denville, formerly of Montclair, passed away on November 23, 2013, at the age of 92. Valentina was born in Janow, Poland in 1921. After WWII she earned her medical degree at the University of Heidelberg in Germany, where she met and married George Papadopulos. They immigrated to the United States in 1949 and lived in Michigan where Valentina completed her U.S. medical requirements at the University of Michigan and then went into general practice. In 1959 she moved with her husband and two young daughters to New Jersey, and soon thereafter completed a residency in Pediatrics. Valentina worked as a pediatrician in private practice and as the Director of Pediatrics at the NYSA-ILA Medical Center in Newark. She also had a long association with the Kessler Institute in pediatric rehabilitation. She retired in 1999 after 50 years in medicine. Valentina was predeceased in 2003 by George, her husband of 57 years. She is survived by her daughters Eva Davy of Westford, NY and Ann Guarino of Glen Rock, NJ as well as her grandsons Nicholas and Vincent Guarino. Visitation will be held on Saturday November 30, 2013 from 1:00-3:00pm with a memorial service beginning at 2:30, at the Vander Plaat Funeral Home, 257 Godwin Ave., Wyckoff (www.vpfh.com, 201-891-3400).
