Obituary of James R. Morgan

James R. Morgan, whose nickname was "Bob," passed away on Monday, November 28, 2011 at the age of 91. Bob was born in Bloomsburg, PA. Approx. age 21 he joined the Army Air Corps and was trained as a pilot, Later on; he was promoted to First Lieutenant. He flew a B24 Liberator bombing aircraft on many missions during World War II and was awarded a number of medals for bravery, including the Purple Heart. One mission involved was the famous Ploesti Air Raids over the Romanian oil refineries in 1943, and during another mission, in which the aircraft was headed toward Germany, the B24 was shot down and Bob became a Prisoner of War for 18 months.
When the war ended, Bob returned to the United States and married his "sweetheart," Dorothy Johnson in 1946. They remained married for 63 years. The couple lived in North Caldwell and Caldwell, NJ where Bob worked as a printing executive with Bowne & Co. of New York. Upon retirement in 1982, Bob and Dorothy moved to Chatham (Cape Cod), their dreamt destination, where they spent the next 28 years. In 2010 Bob lost his beloved wife, Dorothy. The children moved Bob to Mt. Arlington Senior living assisted facility in NJ to be closer to his children.
Bob was known as a "people person". Everyone that came into contact with him loved him. He was kind and was blessed with great sense of humor which he endured to the day he passed away. He will be greatly missed by his family, relatives and friends.
He is survived by his children JoAnne & her husband John Voorhees; John and his wife Angele, grandchildren Robert & Shawn of Ridgewood NJ. There will be a memorial service at 2:00 pm on Saturday, December 17, 2011 at Saint Dunstan's Episcopal Church, 179 South Hillside Ave., Succasunna, NJ 07876. Burial will be at Massachusetts National cemetery in Bourne MA. Memorial donations maybe made to Saint Dunstan's Episcopal Church in lieu of flowers.
