Obituary of Lyder K. Dignes

Lyder K. Dignes World Class Ski jumper and founder of Lydo Precision Products died peacefully at his home with his wife at his side on Monday, October 10, 2011. Lyder was born in Vikersund Norway on September 1, 1924. He attended University in Norway and first traveled to the US to start his career as an engineer. He immigrated in the early 1950's. He later launched his medical device manufacturing company which fabricated medical instruments and orthopaedic implants of which he was President until his retirement. As a ski jumper, with his given nickname "Lyder the Glider" he was to compete in the 1956 Olympics and jump for the US team but his citizenship did not process in time. Nonetheless he was known throughout the world as a champion jumper and in the 1990's was invited back to Norway by The King of Norway for a reception dedicating a new ski jump. Lyder and his wife Gerd have lived in Mountain Lakes for 55 Years. Lyder's love of skiing brought him to NY State's Belleayre Mountain where he and his family (now three generations of skiers) have skied and had a home nearby for almost 55 years. Following his passion for skiing, until 1991 he and Gerd would also travel to Vail Colorado every year. In his retirement Lyder enjoyed more ski, golf and loved helping his family with any and every odd job that required a little engineering. Lyder was predeceased by his son Scott, and his two sisters. He is survived by his dear wife of 55 Years, Gerd, his son Roy (wife Annella) , daughter Karen, and five grandchildren: Kelsey, Kenzi, Blake, Britt, and Alfie.
