Ida Mary Dan (Brullo) passed away on August 1, 2011.
She was 90 years old.
Born in the Dublin Section of Paterson on May 10, 1921 to Parents Mariano and Concettina Brullo of Comiso, Sicily, Italy. She lived most of her life on Mill Street in Paterson.
After her marriage to Thomas Leon Dan (Danowski) on August 11, 1962 at St. Michael's RC Church in Paterson, they purchased a home on Totowa Avenue, in the Hillcrest Section of Paterson.
In June of 1965, she gave birth to her only child, Renee Constance.
Ida had moved to Denville, NJ in 1999 to be closer to her grandchildren: Sebastian, Tara and Thomas, which she was extremely fond of. Most recently a resident at The Country Home for Seniors; Morris Plains.
She was predeceased by her husband in 1993. Also predeceased by her sisters Pauline Brullo Crapella; Biagina Brullo Bosco and Elvira Brullo Lorman.
Ida worked in the Editorial Department of the Morning Call in Paterson as Entertainment Editor; General Assignment Reporter; and Morgue Librarian from 1946 - 1964. She then worked at the Paterson Board of Education as a Teacher's Assistant and School Librarian from 1972 - 1991.
She attended Paterson Public School Number 2, Central High School, Paterson, NJ Class of 1940, NYU School of Journalism (1950-1952), and Rutgers University.
Ida was a member of the American News Guild, she was aPresident for the Center of Italian Culture of Seaton Hall University; Paterson Chapter, President of St. Joseph's Hospital Junior Auxilary, Paterson, NJ, School 27 PTA, Paterson, NJ, NJEA; PEA Girl Scout Leader; Troop 660; Lenni Lenape; Paterson, NJ, she was the President of St. Mary's RC Church Senior Citizens group, Paterson, NJ and President of the Denville Senior Citizens group.
Her hobbies included gardening, cooking and socializing.
Ida is survived by her loving daughter Renee and her husband Rick Vollmar and her grandchildren Sebastian, Tara and Tommy Vollmar all of Denville, NJ.
Funeral services will be held on Friday August 5, 2011 at 10AM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834. Friends may visit on Thursday from 5-9PM.
