Charles V. Filios passed away at home in the Lake Arrowhead section of Denville, NJ on May 28, 2011. He was 103 years old. Born in Rotto Freno, Italy, he had moved to the US in 1914 settling in Westfield, MA. He then lived in Windsor, CT and Newton, MA before moving to Montville, in 1970, and then to Denville, NJ in 2010. Charles graduated from Bentley School of Accounting and Finance in Westfield, MA with a degree in Finance in 1933. He then worked as an Accountant and Bank Examiner for the Federal Savings and Loan until 1949 and then went to work as the President of Windsor Federal Savings in Windsor, CT until 1960 when he went to Boston Federal Savings in Boston, MA until 1970. He then went on to become the Treasurer for his brother In-Law at Haverly Systems in Denville, NJ for 16 years before retiring in 1986. Charles was the Fire Commissioner for Montville Twp. from 1992 to 2003 He was instrumental in constructing the present home office for the Windsor Federal Savings and he was the recording secretary for the Denville Chamber of Commerce for 20 years and in 2002 he was granted Life Status in the Chamber. He was predeceased by his wife Barbara E. (Brigham) in 1992. He is survived by his children Carl E of Pittsfield, MA, David A. Filios of Southport, NC, and Janet Filios of Newtown, PA. His 4 Grandsons and 3 Great Grandchildren as well as his siblings Angela Haverly of Denville, NJ, John Filios of Bedford, MA and Frederick Filios of Amherst, MA also survive him. He is also survived by his long time companion Bronie Parkins. Funeral services will be held at 5PM on June 5, 2011 at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave Denville, NJ 07834.
