I cannot believe it's been almost two years since the world lost the most amazing man ever created. Not only was he my grandfather, he was my best friend, the father I never had, my inspiration, my strength, my leader, my teacher, my everything. When he passed away a huge part of me died with him. It's a part of me that will NEVER be the same. However, it's that missing part of me that keeps me going every single day. It's because of you, pop, that I have the courage and the strength to conquer anything that life throws my way. Thank you for being such an amazing teacher. Thank you for being so selfless and thoughtful. Thank you for being the father I never had and giving me everything I ever wanted or needed. Thank you for being an inspiration to not only myself but to the thousands of people you taught throughout your life. I can only dream of making such an impact on the world as you have. Thank you for telling me I was beautiful every time I walked within your vision. Thank you for supporting every stupid decision I ever made. Thank you for telling me everything was going to be ok even when it wasn't. Thank you for having SO MUCH faith in me no matter what I was doing. Thank you for being the incredible and loving man that you were. I love you so much more than words. I think about you EVERY DAY. Your chair still smells like you sometimes. It's the most amazing and comforting smell in the world. You will always be my number one, the most amazing man. Keep resting in the sweetest peace, pop. Nicholas Anthony Picciano RIP 4-2-11 <3 my hero

Grade 6 at Valleyview in 1964. A long time ago, but so many clear memories. It was such an important year for so many us in that class under the guidance of Mr. Picciano - he will always be Mr. Picciano! He was a real teacher who had a real impact on me.
I am deeply saddened by his passing and can only imagine what his loss means to his family and close friends. My deepest sympathies.
The Picciano arriving at the service for my mother late last year - so unexpected, but instantly recognizable as the teacher I had not seen for many, many years, is a kindness I will never forget.

Mary and Family, I am so sorry for your loss. I am so thankful that my sister Billie surprised me on my 50th birthday with a visit from Mr. and Mrs.Picciano. Mr. P arrived with our yearbook in hand and seemed to remember all our classmates. What a great memory for names. I loved Denville school and still feel close to the friends I made there. Mr. Picciano's class was always fun. I am sure he was one of the reasons I love middle school kids and choose to teach them.
I will be so sad to return to Denville and not have lunch with him (and fight over the check), Mr.P. I will miss you. Till we meet again! (Yes, you can pay the bill).

Dear Mrs. Picciano and family,
Please accept my deepest condolences on the passing of Mr. Picciano. He was my 8th grade homeroom and social studies teacher 63/64. What a year that was. He and I had this running battle about Cassius Clay/Mohamed Ali. Mr P. thought he was too arrogant and I liked his spirit. I think of Mr. P. everyday that I use my Mohamed Ali boxing gloves when I'm training with my kick boxing trainer. Mr. P. would get a kick out of that.
Another memory I have of that year was the assassination of President Kennedy. I came from gym class to Social Studies. Janet Seltzer was crying. Mr. P. had us all sit down and he explained to us what was happening. It is a day I'll never forget.
Mr. P. was not only a great teacher, one of my inspirations for becoming a teacher myself, but also a man who had a great deal of insight. In the spring of that 8th grade year we had a talent show. I was helping Janet Seltzer with her dance performance. After her performance was over I said to Mr. P.--Wasn't Janet great? Mr P. responded--Wendy you are great too. I never really understood until after many years of therapy I realized I did have as much to offer as anyone. Mr. P. realized that and I will always remember him and his incredible kindness. He was truly a remarkable man.

Mr. Picciano, was one of Denville's beloved treasures for sure! My sisters and I knew new him as children at school. My mom worked with him on Joey Bella. More recently I was able to know him as an adult, by working together with him and Patricia Johnsen in the last couple of years on the MAC grant. Always trying to keep kids safe and off of drugs. I have had some of my favorite conversations with him about children and family and working together to make a great town. Mr. Picciano, your smiling face at Townhall and around town will greatly be missed. Please look down on all of us and keep us safe. Darlene Price
