Marie-Therese Dally of Denville, NJ, formerly of Monroe, NY, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 10, 2013, at the age of 79.
She was born in Brooklyn, NY, the daughter of the late Henry and Kathryn Pomares. She is survived by Thomas, her devoted husband of fifty four years, and her two sons, Gerard of Denville, and Martin of Rockaway, and her sister Michelle P. Figliomeni, of Washingtonville, NY, and her brother John and his wife Rose Ann of Chester, NY.
She was predeceased by a son, Timothy in1965 and a sister, Madeleine Anne in 1979.
Marie-Therese graduated from St. John’s School, Goshen, NY from St. Joseph’s College, Brooklyn, NY and from Fordham University, Bronx, NY where she earned her Master’s degree in Elementary Administration. She earned a second Master’s degree in Biblical Studies from the Seminary at Seton Hall, South Orange, NJ.
Marie –Therese was a kindergarten teacher in Monroe, NY at the Main Street School, where she met her husband and married in 1959. Later she was a substitute teacher at St. Mary’s School in Denville, NJ. She faithfully served as Director of Religious Education at St. Mary’s for thirty eight years. During her tenure she brought revisions to the curriculum that enhanced the doctrinal presentation to the students. She capitalized upon her own educational talent by introducing more appealing forms of instruction with videos, role playing and community service.
One of her lesser known contributions was her work in Braille translation for the Library of Congress. She took enormous pride in this public service. Marie-Therese was a member of the local book club and was an avid reader of mystery novels. She also enjoyed the companionship of friends in her sewing circle where her embroidery and needlepoint skills were admired. Many of the items she crafted were donated to charities.
Marie-Therese is best remembered as a devoted wife and mother. Her many friends enjoyed hearing stories about the adventures she and her husband experienced on their trips to Europe and the Middle East.
Marie-Therese’s funeral will be conducted from Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Avenue, Denville, NJ www.normandean.com, (please share a memory of her on website), on Wednesday, August 14th at 9am for a 10am Mass of Christian Burial Service at St. Mary’s Church, Denville, NJ. Burial is at St. Anastasia’s Cemetery, Harriman, NY. Relatives and friends will be received at the funeral home on Tuesday August 13th from 2-4 and 7-9pm.
