Mr. Spinola hired me in 1980 as secretary to the Child Study Team. It was a privilege to have known Spinny, not only as a "boss", but as a friend. There were many times that Spinny, his secretary Fran and I would have lunch in his office and he would tell us stories about his experiences during World War 11. He was a fascinating person. He was fortunate to have had such a wonderful life and a loving wife and daughter.

One of my memories of Riverview School in Denville was of Spinny walking into class and hoisting me up in the air to greet me. ( 1st grade) Later he gave me a summer job working in the schools for my 16th,17th and 18th years. He was a constant friend and a dear friend of my father George who helped usher in a newer, larger school system in Denville. I'm not sure who has been able to fill his shoes since his retirement but his nuturing and compassion made him one in a million. Many of us owe much to this loving educator.

So many educators teach us in such a way that we never forget the impact that they have had on our lives. Mr Spinola was one of them!! So many of us in grade school went on to become teachers because of him. I bet he is up in heaven right now shaking hands with Mr Ciurczak who passed away in the fall of 2009!
Thank you for your kindness!

I have lived and taught in Houston since 1984 but attended Lakeview School in the late 50's where Mr. Spinola would come into the classrooms, call us by name and hug us!I began my teaching career at Lakeview and at every open house Spinny would leave us a hand written note thanking us for our dedication to teaching. When my son ws born in 1982 and I decided to stay home for a while and not return to teaching, Spinny sent me a handwritten note congratulating me on my decision to be a stay at home mom. My dad still lives in Denville and has also always been a fan of Spinny's.We will nevr forget him.

One of the sweetest nicest humans ever to grace God's green earth has passed. He was the bedrock of Denville education for many generations and mad it one of the best school systems in the area. He knew everybody and everybody knew him. When I was a cheeky little kid I once called him Spinny much to my mom's embarrassment and he said it was OK! Between he and Bob Ciurczak two of the greats are gone. Godspeed.

Spinola Family,
There are not enough words to describe this genuine people person of a man. Whether you were a student a teacher a parent or a taxpayer Spinny respected you. Through the past few years many Icons of Denville have moved home to heaven and the rewards that they deserve. As I picture the Denville section of heaven today I see a gathering of great men and women all whom made a difference in young peoples lives but probably no one had a larger impact on more lives than Mr Spinny Spinola. The Denville section of the Angel Chior is one strong voice louder today! May your sadness and sorrow be short and may the memories of this great man fulfill your days!
Cherish those memories all of Denville does too!

"Spinny" truly a Denville treasure. He touched so many lives and cared so very deeply for the students in "his" schools. No matter how many years went by he always remembered everyone's names and would always be interested in what a former student was doing and how he or she was and he always remembered their names. Our children and our school system were so fortunate to have Spinny guide them. I will miss seeing him on his walks and would stop and chat when he would always ask about my children and remember something about them. Mrs. Spinola and Judy, please know that my thoughts and prayers are with you at this time.

What could make for a happier day than to have someone burst into my store calling my name from the door all the way up to the sales counter. In comes the excitement of Spinny calling George George George and grabbing my hand like a linebacker, shaking my hand and the other arm around my back. How can that not be a good day? Spinny always had a way to make everyone feel important, He was quite a man and an even better friend.
Dedicated to his job, he was more than dedicated he loved his roll in Denville calling students by name telling teachers " good job" and all with one thought in mind the better education of our children...

To the Dear Spinola family, I started kindergarten in 1958 in Riverview School in Denville. Being a very shy and scared young girl, I did not know what to expect. Mr. Spinola took me personally by the hand and led me to my classroom and watched to make sure I fit in with the other children. After that, everyday I attended Riverview School, up until 6th g rade, he would always meet me and remembered me by name. That meant so much to me.. As I grew, and attended Valleyview and them Morris Knolls, he STILL remembered my name. After graduating MK and become an "adult" he asked me to address him as his friends did...."Spiny"..until the last day I remember seeing him, he still addressed me by my name..He was a truely caring, personable man and always took the extra time to stop, laugh, and smell the roses...I will never forget Spinny, He was probably one of the most influential men in my life..RIP MR. Spinola..your students LOVED you! xxxxxx
