Richards “Bill”, 86, passed away on Tuesday, March 23, 2010 at Sunrise Assisted Living of Randolph. Bill was born at Dover, NJ and was a resident of Denville since 1953. He was a Pre Law graduate at Rutgers University. Bill served during World War II in the United States Army attaining the rank of Sergeant. He was the founder with his wife Bette in 1960 of the William D. Richards Insurance Agency and in 1972 became the Richards & Summers Insurance Company in Denville, NJ retiring in 1990. He served on the Denville Board of Health, and he served as President for the Morris Hills Regional Board of Education, he was a Mini Bowl Recipient, and he served as President and District Secretary, and he was honored as a Paul Harris Fellow for the Denville Rotary Club, and was a member of the Masons Jephthah Lodge of Rockaway, and a member of the Salaam Shrine of Livingston, and he was a member of the American Legion Post 390 Denville, NJ, and was active in the Little League Baseball, and he was a member and served on the Board of Trustees at the Denville Community United Methodist Church. Bill was the loving husband of Bette (nee Mitterling) for 59 years, devoted father of David Richards of Denville and grandchildren Kevin and Dana, and Nancy Sweeney and her husband Tom of Sparta, and grandchildren of Timothy, Caitlin, Colleen, and Patrick, and survived by his sister Jane Schwanhausser of Lancaster, PA. Bill’s funeral will be conducted from Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ www.normandean.com, (please light a candle in memory of Bill on web site), on Monday March 29th at 10am for services at 11am at Denville Community United Methodist Church, 190 Diamond Spring Rd., Denville, NJ, interment committal services at Denville Cemetery. Relatives and friends will be received on Sunday, March 28 at the funeral home from 2-5pm. In lieu of flowers donations to Denville Community United Methodist Church.
