Obituary of Edith L Murphy
Please share a memory of Edith to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Edith ( Edie) L. Murphy, age 84, of Denville, transitioned from this life on
January 8, 2010. Born October 9, 1925 in Ossining, NY, she was the
daughter of the late Frederick and Louise (Benz) Loeloff.
In her youth and in later in life, Edith was known to sacrifice for the sake of others. She left High School in order to work to help support her family. She had worked many years as a bookkeeper for numerous automobile agencies until she retired from McDonald Pontiac. She then continued to work part time taking the summers off so she could pursue her tan at the Rock Ridge Lake Community Club. As a member of Rock Ridge she gave her time freely to assist wherever needed. She continued her tasks after recently being diagnosed with lung cancer having previously lost a lung to cancer 28 years ago.
Edith was known for being fiercely independent, and always believed in living her life the way she wanted, and passed that legacy onto her son, Brian.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 57
years, James T. Murphy. She is survived by her son, Brian S Murphy and his wife Paula Zeliff-Murphy of Stanhope, NJ.
There will be a celebration of life for Edie and her late husband Jim at the Rock Ridge Lake clubhouse, 55 Entrance Way, Denville, January 31, 2010 from 2-5 PM. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to the Denville Fire Dept, 2 Indian Rd, Denville, NJ 07834.
