My condolences to the family...I grew up in the neighborhood around J&M , or as we called it--Johnny's. I doubt if Mary knew me by name, but over the years she watched me grow up. And even after long periods between me going into the store, she would always recognize me and offer up a beautiful smile. She was always very kind to me. May she rest in peace.

My condolences to you, Betty and Jack. I remember an Easter celebration a few years ago at your house and how excited your mother was when George Papadimitriou jokingly told her that they had adopted me into their family. She spoke to me in Greek the rest of the day; I replied in English. I think we understood each other. I hope George let her down easy when he told the truth.
I apologize for not being able to drive down earlier this week for the service. Best wishes for the new year.

We lived next door to J&M when Robbie was born and Mary gave him a bear for his first Christmas. We named it "Mary Bear" and every night for may years Robbie could not sleep without it. That was 27 years ago now and Mary Bear sits in my room reminding me of Mary's love for the boys. They would look forward to getting hugs and kisses and a treat from Mary every time we came into the store. We will all miss her and remember her always.Love, Betty Sue Robbie, Michael, Benjamin & Christopher

My prayers will be with you and may you be sustained by the wonderful legacy and memories your loved one has left behind.

I had the privilege of being Mary's hospice volunteer for a year. The many Saturday's and Sunday's we spent together will be with me always. May her family find peace in the fact that she lived a long and full life which is evident by the people she touched along the way and her devotion to her family and their devotion to her. God bless.

Mary and her family were a very important part of my life. I would ride my bicycle from Front St. down to the market by the bridge. In the 50's it was a wonderful adventure. I met Betty in high school. While I still lived in NJ we patronized the market especially during the holidays and through gift baskets. Where did the time go?

When I would take eggs from my small farm to her store, she would insist that I take a take a bag of fresh peaches or other produce home with me, resisting my plea that it wasn't necessary. For her it seemed it was necessary, because that was who she was.
Always generous, always wanting to exhange some pleasant words with me when she saw me. Small in physical stature, but with a large heart. Fond memories of a good person.

Mary was not only the matriarch of the J&M family, but also one of Denville's matriarchs! There was NEVER a time we went into J&M that our girls did not leave without a piece of candy from Mary. She always had a hug, kiss, and a piece of candy for our girls - they adored her, as we all did. This is truly a loss for the entire town. What an inspiration - God bless and rest in peace Mary. I have fond memories of Mary. She was always a pleasant woman. I remember when I was younger and lived in Beacon Hill, we all would walk down to "John & Mary's" to buy some little sweet candies in a can. Mary would always give me a kiss and hand me a piece of candy. That was her "giving" nature. She will be missed by all.
