John E. Lee, Lawyer John E. Lee, age 98, who practiced law for over 50 years, died at home on December 17, 2009. He was a retired partner at Schenck, Price, Smith, and King in Morristown, NJ. Mr. Lee was born on March 25, 1911, in Willmette, Illinois. He resided in Mountain Lakes or it's environs most of his life, attending public schools in Mountain Lakes, and graduating from Morristown High School in 1929. He attended American University in 1929-30 and graduated with honors from Wesleyan University in 1934 and from Yale Law School in 1937. He served his clerkship with the law office of Arthur T. Vanderbilt with whom he was associated until entering military service in 1943. He was appointed to the Judge Advocate General's School at the University of Michigan Law School where he was commissioned as a 1st Lieutenant. After his military service he became an associate with the Morristown firm of Schenck, Price, Smith, and King in 1946 and a partner in 1951. He enjoyed the practice of law for over 50 years. Mr. Lee was married to the former Kate Louise Daniels who died in 2002. They were married in 1940 and had three daughters and five grandchildren. He was predeceased by his brothers H. Vernon Lee, Jr. of Mountain Lakes and Richard Amos Lee of Boonton. Mr. Lee was active in community service, serving as President of the Board of Trustees of the Parsippany Presbyterian Church, member of The Community Church of Mountain Lakes, and Chairman of the Municipal Board of Adjustment. He was, for many years, director and counsel for the First National Bank of Whippany, Denrock Savings and Loan Association, and Houdaille Construction Materials, Inc. Mr. Lee and his wife, Kate, were avid golfers, belonging to the Mt. Tabor Country Club, Rockaway River Country Club and Mid Ocean Club in Bermuda. In their travels they played many of the golf courses you have seen on television, such as Cypress and Pebble Beach in California. He was a member of St. John's Lodge, F & AM no. 1; Scottish Rite Valley of New Jersey; Salaam Temple; American and New Jersey Bar Associations. He is survived by his 3 daughters and sons-in-law, Nell L. and Peter A. Sellers of Moraga, CA, Sally L. and Robert M. Kerns of Berwyn, PA, and Lucy L. and Edward T. Hayes of Chapel Hill, NC; 5 grandchildren, Corrine, Erin, and Allison Kerns and John and Bill Hayes; and several nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at The Community Church in Mountain Lakes, NJ Monday, December 21, 2009 at 11:00 am. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association or The American Cancer Society. Private Burial has taken place
