Obituary of Donald A. Scott

Dr. Donald Scott, a long-time Professor of Chemistry at Drew University died at home on August 5, 2009; he was 91. He and his wife Dotty lived in Madison for more than 30 years before moving to Mt. Kemble Lake and then Franciscan Oaks in Denville.
Don held degrees from Cornell College, the University of Arizona, and the State University of Iowa. He also attended the University of Wisconsin, where he found the love-of-his-life, Dorothy LeMahieu; they recently celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary.
After teaching at the University of Arizona, Cornell College, and Washington and Jefferson College, he came to Drew in 1954 with a strong commitment to liberal education of quality at the undergraduate level.
As Chairman of the Dept of Chemistry for many years and as Chairman of the Science Division for several terms, Don was involved in developments such as the planning and construction of the Hall of Sciences.
Outside of his profession, Don for many years was an active member of the United Methodist Church in Madison and in more recent years at the Church of the Redeemer in Morristown. At Redeemer he volunteered in the Soup Kitchen & the Hospitality Network for the Homeless. He gathered food and funds for the Interfaith Food Pantry and was a member of the founding Board of Trustees of the Eric Johnson House, a residence for homeless persons who have the AIDS virus.
He was a strong believer in the power of non-violence and was a conscientious objector to war.
He is survived by his wife Dotty, and their 2 daughters, Meena in Santa Fe and Rebecca in New York City.
A Memorial Service will be held at The Church of the Redeemer in Morristown on Tuesday, August 11 @ 7 pm and his ashes will be placed in the
Memorial Garden at that time.
