Joseph J. Konecnik
Beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and brother
Joseph James Konecnik, of Indian Lake in Denville, died on Wednesday June 17, 2009 at the age of 87. He was born the fifth child of eleven to his parents, Martin and Anna Konecnik, and raised in the Hibernia section of Rockaway, NJ.
He left home at an early age to join the CCC (Civilian Conservation Corps) and served briefly in Morristown and then for a longer period in Zillah, Washington. He was an avid baseball player during his time in the CCC and was offered a spot in the minor leagues there. However, he missed his family in New Jersey, and upon his return, played for the Mt. Hope team for many years.
Mr. Konecnik was employed for a number of years at Austenal in Dover, NJ and also worked at Curtiss Wright in Fairfield, NJ before his employment at Hoffman LaRoche in Nutley, NJ for 17 years. He was a Senior Chemical Operator in his last position there, retiring in 1984.
He was a member of St. Mary’s Church in Denville and served there for many years as an usher and lector. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He was also a member of the Elks in Rockaway.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Camilla (nee Stole) and three daughters; Karen Andersen of Boise, Idaho, Laura Richardson of Hopatcong, NJ and Camille Petrocco of Hackettstown, NJ. His grandchildren include David Andersen, Andrew Zywot, Mark Davis, Scott Davis, and Jennifer Petrocco. There are six great grandchildren; Melissa, Holly, David Jr., and Whitney Andersen and Lily and Samuel Davis. Of his ten siblings, only one sister and two brothers remain; Julie Crozier, Edward Konecnik, and Andrew Konecnik, and many nieces and nephews as well.
Relatives and friends will be received on June 19th Friday at 7-9pm and on June 20th Saturday 2-4 and 7-9pm an Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave., Denville, NJ www.normandean.com, please light a candle on web site. A Mass of Christian Burial service will be offered on June 22nd Monday at 11am at St. Mary’s Church. Interment will be in Denville Cemetery.
