Joe and I went to high school together in Senior year we had a speech class together and became good friends though I don't think we learned much speech. I always admired and respected him for he was truly a good person who always saw the very best in everyone. He took ever situation he was involved in and tried to make it a better one for all of his classmates at the valley. I am sure God has a very special place for him in heaven

I remember Joe had called once about a Family event and I think it was a Family Reunion but he wanted to see if Rosie and I were going because he couldn't make it and he wanted to be sure the Family was represented. Family was the most important thing to him, not just immediate, but he cared for and loved the entire extended family. And to that respect, I admired and thought the world of Joe. Look at the fantastic job he and Glo did with raising 3 wonderful kids who have turned into 3 great adults. He was a compassionate, loving family man that we all have learned from and can emulate. We will miss Joe but he will always remain in our thoughts, prayers and in our hearts!

My favorite memory of my big brother Joe is when he was in high school and he would be talking on the phone to his friends and I would imitate him on my pink princess phone. He would yell to our mom to tell me to stop bothering him. After all, I thought thats what a little sister's job is to bother her older siblings. I will never forget how Joe loved the song, New York, New York. He would always be the first on the dance floor when that song was playing. So until me meet again may God hold you in the palm of his hand.

Each day gets harder because I know you physically won't be there with us at the next family event. But yu are no longer suffering and you are in a much better place. I know there are holes in the floor of heaven and you're watching over us. I can't wait until I see you again. And to all the O'Connors', we have the best guardian agnel one could ever want. There are few people that I can say that I know for 49 years and Joe was one of the most special ones. As my brothers best friend in high school Joe was a second big brother, giving me advise and always making the little sister fel special. His family welcomed my mother, brother and I into their home and we had many special times. The O'Conners were the first "Irish" people I ever met. Then came Gloria the marriage and the move to Rockaway. Who was to know I would follow you here many years later. Yes, we moved to Rockaway because of Joe and Gloria. Lori was my boys first baby sitter. Soon Joe convinced me that it was OK to let Louis and Billy play football. The story goes on but my second older brother was always there whenever I needed him. Just his sweet smile made such a difference. Gloria, Lori, Greg and Erin he loved you so. He holds a special place in many of our hearts.

Some men stand on the sidelines and watch life pass by with indifference, while others roll up their sleeves, put their shoulders to the wheel and work hard to improve their community. Mr. O'Connor certainly could never be mistaken for belonging to that first group.
Whether it was serving his country with honor, serving his town with honesty, or serving and raising a wonderfully giving family, he did so with a level of class and dignity and grace all of us should emulate.
He led by quiet confidence, always opening with his inviting smile and that glint in his eye, and along the way he taught very many of us how to be good men.

Although I did not know Mr. O'Connor well, I know his daughter Erin well. I know the kind of man he was by the kind of daughter he has raised. He has raised a kind, loving, gentle person with whom I know he was proud. What a mark to make on this earth!! God is smiling at his new addition in heaven.

Gloria, Lori, Gregg and Erin,
Our thoughts and prayers are with you. Joe had a way of making everyone feel valued. He always had a smile and a kind word. I looked up to him as a kid and admired him as an adult.
I'll never forget the Notre Dame Navy games and the endless weekends of fun.
He will be missed!

The world may have lost a very special man but the great memories we have of Joe will be with us forever. I have known Joe and his family for many years. I spent most of my childhood running through his house, sliding down his staircase in a sleeping bag, going on family camping trips, or looking for him and my dad at peterson field! I remember the day my dad introduced me to Joe and Erin. He said, "meet your new tball coach!" Joe just smiled from ear to ear and Erin(Irish!) and I became inseperable and the O'Connors became like a second family to me. Joe was the most kind and gentle man I've ever known. He would have done anything for anyone. Joe-you will always hold a special place in my heart and I am blessed to have had you in my life. Gloria, Lori, Greg and Erin...you are all wonderful and my thoughts and prayers are with you. Joe lives on forever in all you. Love you guys!

Joe How you will be missed, So many fun and happy memories especially in California and at all our oldies dances. You were always the calm and pleasant voice of reason. I know your family will be lost without you/ Love Elaine

Please "light a candle" and share some of your memories about our father and husband - we would love to hear some of the great stories! He would want us to laugh and maybe drink a beer. Thank you to everyone who helped us out .... words cannot express how grateful we are.
