Obituary of Alf Kjekstad

Alf Kjekstad, 99, died on Monday May 8, 2006 at St. Clares Hospital in Denville, NJ.
He was born in Homborsund, Norway and he came to the U. S. in 1926, settling in Brooklyn, NY before moving to the Lake Telemark section of Rockaway.
Alf worked in many jobs before WWII, he was a boat builder, a Doorman, a superintendent of apartment buildings, as well as a carpenter building barracks in Fort Dix Army Base, and worked in building the 1939 Worlds Fair in New York. After the war he worked in heavy construction and dock building for Spearin, Preston, & Burrows, Inc. in New York City for 32 years retiring in 1974. He had also been a member of Dock Builders Union Local #1456 in New York City.
Alf was a member of Jephthah Masonic Lodge # 233 F & A M in Rockaway, NJ. He was also a life member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Rockaway.
When he had lived in Brooklyn he was active in the Sons of Norway.
He married his wife Ester Alfrida Gabrielsen on Nov. 14, 1931 in the 46 St. Church in Brooklyn, NY. They would be celebrating their 75th anniversary this coming Nov.
He is also survived by his two sons and their wives Earl and Siri of Homborsund, Norway, and Stanley and Hessie of Mt. Arlington. He is also survived by six grandchildren Joanne Nesheim, Ingrid Kjekstad, Sonja Simoni, Victoria Kjekstad, Steven Kjekstad, and Diann Cunningham, as well as seven great grandchildren Andreas, Gabriel, Alexandria, Kristine, Eric, Samantha, and Christopher.
Funeral services will be held on Monday May 15, 2006 at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church 508 Green Pond Rd. Rockaway, NJ 07866 at 11:00 AM.
Friends may visit with the family on Saturday May 13, 2006 from 2-4 & 7-9 PM at Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave. Denville, NJ www.normandean.com.
