Bona fortuna tibi Miss Larcom...
I was telling people about you today and googled and found this page. You were a teacher who not only imparted your knowledge in a way that was fun and wonderful, but treated your students as if they were adults and in an amazing human way that is often lost on high school students.
You have been and will continue to be missed.
Thank you.

I was a latin student of Ellen’s all four of my high school years (1975 to 1979) in Pequannock. “Miss Larcom” referred to me as “Rufus” for my red hair, I will forever refer to her as one of my best teachers.
Ellen was much more than a Latin teacher; among many other life-lessons she taught self-respect, how not to take yourself too seriously, and how to be true to yourself despite the pressures in high school (and later in life) to do otherwise.
My life, as is true for so many others, is better for having known Miss Larcom.

I am sadden to hear of the passing my most beloved teacher ever. Miss Larcom taught me Latin from sixth-twelve grade. There have been many times since then that I have been asked about my favorite teacher and she is without a doubt top of my list. As she retired from teaching my senior year I was excited to know we both started a new chapter of our lives at the same time. Me heading to college and her seeing what retirement would be like with her beloved cat. I will never forget her or the joy and education she brought to my life. My thoughts and prayers are with her family and all those students she touched as she did myself.
