Obituary of Norma Jean “Jean” Shaw

Norma Jean Shaw, 69, died on Thursday December 22, 2005 at her home in Denville, NJ.
She was born and grew up in Morganton, NC; she was the daughter of William Vernon Franklin and Minnie Lou Byrd. After graduating from Morganton High School she joined the U. S. Navy, and was stationed at Bainbridge Naval Center in Maryland. She met her husband Howard Clinton Shaw and they married and moved to her husbands hometown of Denville, NJ in 1957.
She was a school bus driver for Denville Twp. Board of Education for 25 years retiring in 1997.
While living in Denville, Jean had been active in many organizations; she was a Girl Scout Troop leader as her girls were growing up. She was a member of the Denville Beautification Committee and the Denville Historical Society and had served as their President. She was also a member of the Denville V. F. W. Post 2519 Ladies Aux, and had been a past president. She was a member of the Denville Community United Methodist Church.
Jean had also been an avid golfer who had two holes in-one in her golfing career. She and her husband also loved to travel and spent months at their farm in her hometown of Morganton, NC.
Jean also enjoyed her membership in the Ledgewood Chapter of the Ferro Monte Chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution.
Her Son Hunter died in Aug 1982.
She is survived by her husband of 48 years Howard C. her children Sherry Kobee of Hope, NJ, Sharon Percy of Des Moines, Io. Harry and his wife Diane Shaw of Rockaway and Howard and his wife Jody Shaw of Denville. She also leaves her grandchildren Casey and Christie Shaw, Dylan and Carly Shaw, Andrew Kobee, Hans Bowitz and Henry Percy, and her siblings Carolyn Jo-Lynn and her husband George Fillerup of Redondo Beech, Ca., Doris Ann Detz of Mich., and Bob and his wife Norma Franklin of Morganton, NC.
Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday Dec. 28, 2005 at 9:00 AM at the Norman Dean Home for Services 16 Righter Ave. Denville, NJ www.normandean.com for a 10:00 AM service at the Denville Community Church, friends may visit with the family on Tuesday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM.
