In the course of my work as a bandleader, I met many thousands of people. Now and then I would meet someone with whom I felt a special connection and that person became a friend. Then there were a few friends that became family. Evelyn was family, and her cheerful disposition was infectious. She touched my life with happiness and knowing her made my life better. I will miss her!

Evelyn possessed rare and prized gifts....gifts of elegance, grace, poise, empathy, compassion, understanding, fair play, and warmth.
I admired Evelyn as someone who innately knew the appropriate conduct in any situation and often sought her advice.
Our working relationship grew into a friendship of close to 30 years during which time we celebrated, laughed, conspired, confided, and mourned together.
Ev once shared a notebook with me to read, in which she had written beautiful phrases, her deepest thoughts and feelings, and questions of life and of God. I believe she would have added this to her collection....
"Count your garden by the flowers, Never by the leaves that fall.
Count your days by the golden hours, Don't remember the clouds at all.
Count the nights by stars, not shadows. Count your life by smiles, not tears.
And with joy on every occasion, Count your age by friends, not years."
I've always considered myself lucky to have Ev as a friend and even luckier that she considered me one.
Although our lives may have taken different paths over the years, our reunions were marked with an ease and warmth that can only be attributed to Ev and, of course, Roy.
Memories of events and the words to describe them may fail me, but my feelings and the heart and spirit of Evelyn do not.
These words by Emerson personify Evelyn to me.
"To laugh often and much"
Evelyn had a warm smile and she laughed easily.
"...to win the respect of intelligent people" It goes without a doubt that she was highly respected by all she worked with and knew.
"....and the affection of children," my nephews, Brian and Brucie, still recall the good times with Ev n Roy at Christmas.
"...to appreciate beauty,"
Evelyn loved beautiful written words and phrases.
Her home was decorated with elegance and good taste, her table settings exquisite. Her clothing, coiffure, and cosmetics depicted her elegance and grace.
"...to find the best in others," This is where Evelyn surpassed most people. She had an aptitude for recognizing and extracting the good in others.
"...to leave the world a bit better, whether by a healthy child, a garden patch.." Her daughter, Barbara is a warm and beautiful person.
"...to know even one life has breathed easier because you have lived." I know I have on many occasions been comforted, reassured, supported, and most of all understood by Ev.
"This is to have succeeded!" Evelyn succeeded not only in Life, but most importantly in Love.
May God have her in His loving arms,
Hasta la vista, Ev

I never got to meet Aunt Eve, but we wrote each other letters for the past 25 years in our Christmas cards and became pen pals! Over the years I heard so many wonderful stories about her that I felt like I knew her. She was a lovely person, and I know she will be greatly missed.

We have such fond memories of Aunt Evelyn. She would grace our family gatherings with her beauty, talent, class, and fun loving nature. Her laughter was infectious. My mother, Betty, truly loved, and admired her. We will never forget her teaching us to dance the "Alley Cat." That song always reminds me of her. Rest in peace, Aunt Eve.
